Cullen ~ You are hereby summoned to create a 'real' GN in the spirit of neo-retro design elements without re-badging existing cars. I'll bet a few people would like that on a T-Shirt...
Summoned huh? I might play around with it some more tonight to get rid of the Camaroish lines- but me creating a entire new car is a little beyond my capabilities. Thanks for the compliments though guys.
Pontiac is dead, so no Firebird. If we want to talk about what the GN used to look like and keep it like it was in the 80's, I guess it needs to be based off the Monte Carlo. While I don't think either will happen, I think this is a cool looking idea. But, like I said, I don't see any of this happening in the near future. Those of us that a Buick die hard, are just too few and will not have enough to justify a whole car. Heck, we can't even get some of the needed parts for our existing Buicks.
Here ya go. I tried to mod a '87 front end on to the Camuick design. I also tried to make the greenhouse a little squarer like it should be. It's a little sloppy and fuzzy, I know- but still kinda neat. Has much more of a GN feel to it.
I don't' know about it. A camaro with a Buick logo and a couple traditional features thrown in doesn't do it for me. The GN wasn't based on a GM sport/muscle car, it was a fairly good sized nice semi luxury car that they revamped to be a fast fun car. The days of a "Buck engine" are gone, so taking a chevy, making it remind you of a Buick and jacking the price up doesn't do it for me. They would have to do some hard selling and convince me it wasn't' a Chevy dressed up before I would look at it. I like the Camaro, but if I'm going to buy a Camaro, I'm not going to pay extra to have them give it a Buick costume.
Put a turbo and some quality rods/pistons on the LSx with room to dial up the waste gate, a 5l80 trans, and call it whatever you want; I might even sell my mustang cobra for one!
Face it, Buick as we knew it is dead. Any new Buick would have a (shudder) Chevy or castrated Cad engine.
I say they just do another run of GNs exactly the same as when they rolled out in 87. Id buy a GN w/ 0 miles, not to mention a better interest rate
When I first read this thread, I thought it was serious. I figured that's what the Mayan calendar was actually counting down to.
At first glance I thought that engine picture in Tom's sig was what would be under the hood - then I woke up to reality...
If I was going to design a new GN I would do it based on the Cadillac CTS V. I hate the new Camaro, but the Caddy that is a different story. Turbo charge a six and throw it in a Caddie and you would have somethingray: I would need to buy. You could also redo the G8 and call it a Wildcat or something and I would probably need one of those also.
Nice, but I kinda like this....:3gears: I would consider selling my 67 to get my hands on one.....ray: http://www.hurst-performance.com/hurst-competition-plus.asp
For what it's worth, based on equivalent dollars, that'd be equal to a $3400 option in 1970. Considering that it would double the price of the car back then it looks pretty pricey.
I've said it on here before and I'll say it again...Buick shouldn't try to resurrect the GS or the GN...but rather come out with a NEW vehicle and call it the G_ where the "_" is some letter other than "S" or "N" that gives the name a nice ring to it. I suggest the "GR" for Grand Roadmaster. Give it a turbo V6. Have an even hotter version with an LS3 and call it the GRX. Hell I even did a quicky emblem in ms paint.
True, they are quite proud of these cars, but they also has quite a bit more done to them than my 68. A Supercharged 68 H/O would have been a real beast!:TU:
