They went and screwed it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AGAIN!!! I want it to look like this!!! I guess I wont be buying one now!!!
Gee, almost as much HP as the Mustang Cobra now. Those things RIP!! Time for an Eaton SC to go on the GTO.
Just needs the Ford team to design some appropriate sheet metal for it. They have GM covered except for the Vette. Ford is going to sell a ton of those new Stangs.
The SVT cobra's only had 390. Now the gto just needs to drop about 500lbs of weight and it'll be a contender.
They grow on you once you have been around them for a while, and they do have the Vette covered with bolt-ons. $1,500 of bolts-ons will produce 500 RWHP or close to 600 very streetable flywheel HP (try getting that much HP from a Vette or GTO with an extra $1,500). There will be no Cobra again until 2007, and it is rumored the 07 will have the GT40 motor. It will be interesting to see if the HP wars continue with gas prices being what they are. Cheryl
I finally saw a new Mustang going down the road a few days ago...nice car!!! I was watching a show on Discovery channel about Drifting, and the American team was building a GTO drift car. They dropped a 500HP LS6 in and basically built everything but the bodt shell from scratch. It didn't fare too well in the race, but it was put together 2 weeks before the race. I don't understand the draw with all these ridiculous deadlines on these car/bike building shows.
What ever happened to the Mach 1 Mustang. I can honestly say I've never seen one in person. I've seen plenty of Cobras and GTO's but no Mach 1's.
It's to build suspense! That's the only reason. That and then the ability to make it into a weekly show.
And the idiots went and dropped the Riviera a few years ago.........what a shame..........imagine a '05 Riv GS with that motor.........shame on GM. :spank:
I still think it looks like a Grand Am. It might be nice, and quick, but it doesn't live up to the GTO name. There were plenty of fast muscle cars, all with different names - power alone doesn't make the name. It needs personality.
Lets face it, they're competing with Japan now. We retro guys have enough old metal to keep us busy. Detroit is going after the new buyers. Lets just be happy they don't have the wings and stuff on them and still have some mojo.
Thats a powerful Chevy engine.....that belongs in a Chevy. I would concider it a the GTO a Pontiac if it actually was powered by a Pontiac. And would concider it a GTO if it was like the origanal GTO (which was a Pontiac powered, affordable ,fun ,power house that anyone could get a loan for). I skoff when people tell me to put a crate motor(chevy) in my Olds. And I wouldnt dare put an Olds motor in my womens Buick (even though it would save me time, money, having to learn a "new" make). GMs moto seems to be pick a GM motor we'll put it in any wrapper for you. Thank you Iam not buying today. :moonu:
