    thanks for all the input

I appreciate all the opinions and thanks ERIC for the car and driver comparison, I didnt know they had features to compare cars side by side.

I happened to catch Super Tuner TV on TNN before the Power Block this weekend. It featured Honda vs. Nissan in SCCA type racing. Concensus seems to be Honda for handling, Nissan for power. Team Honda won the event by a cumulative total team track time of 1.3 seconds. Of course, these were highly modded.

A couple questions to ponder (coming from my NJ roots) -

How much will insurance cost on the each vehicle? Do surcharges apply?

    - AND -

Which one is most likely to get stolen?

Are you sure it's Maxima and not Altima?

If he gets a stick, the Nissan is the choice - in fact, it's probably the only choice as I don't think the Accord is available in a stick with the V6.

For automatics, it depends on whether you meant the Altima or the Maxima. If the former, the Honda is preferable. If the latter, the Maxima has more sporting pretensions, so even with the automatic, the Maxima should be more fun.

    No problem on the links...

And short of my "die hard" Accord roots (yah, first car I really paid for myself), I'd pick the Maxima.

I know the question is Honda vs Nisson but I thought this was a Buick forem. Every car at my house at least has a Buick engine in it. Two Bonnevilles and an Olds 88. The 3.8 Buick is a great engine. Change the plugs every 100,000 miles and the oil every season. I can buy a nice used Bonney with 50,000 miles on it loaded for $12,000 and drive for another 150,000 with normal and cheap maintanance.

At least there are no $800 normal maintanaince cost (Honda timing belts)

My timing belt on my Accord did not cost anywhere near $800. And I lasted probably around 115,000 till I changed it.

The Honda is far superior to a Bonnie or Olds 88 it ain't even funny.

    maxima

Well, if it's any help I just bought a 97 Maxima today. I had a 99 Maxima SE a few years back, but had to sell it when I lost my job! I'd say go with the Maxima, it has more character than the Accord, plus will probably be more fun to drive. My 97 5spd is rated at 0-60 in just 6.9 seconds. And that's with only 190hp! The new Max just screams.

    here is how 2 pick...

if the dealer is letting you test drive.....

..ram the honda into a brick wall at 37mph.....do the same on the nissan......make sure all the airbags work....good!.(seatbelts on of course).......now your ready for the real test...drive each car in reverse on the highway at 63mph...see how they each handle.....HEY..JUST KIDDING..

...Tell your brother to sit in the backseat...while someone else drives....thats a good way 2 test all the creature comforts...and you also feel the ride quality...and dont forget fast cornering....

... GO FOR THE BEST RESALE VALUE..AND ALSO INSURANCE RATES.....OR THE HELL WITH IT,JUST BUY A 72 LARK:beer

...last year I drove a buddy who was ready 2 buy a bmw 525....he liked driving the car...but when he sat in the rear while I was driving durring the demo ride.....he said forget it...a month later he was making his first paynent on his new caddy

Actually, it cost 150 to HAVE my timing belt changed, including a rebuilt water pump.

If I wanted a V6 I'd get a Gn/Turbo Regal, if I want an economical car I'll stick to my rice. Although, trust me, I am getting very, VERY tempted to sell the Honda and start saving for a Turbo Buick... I've got any-time access to a Subaru for the winter

    DON'T, DON'T, DON'T BUY A FREAKIN CADDY,PLEASE!!!!

Resale value, what resale value??? With Caddy, resale value is in the TOLIET :af: :af: :af:
I think the value of my Caddy sank faster than the Titianic.:Dou:

Let us know what you decide on. I think the resale value of the Honda is better but I'd have to agree with the guys and go with the MAXIMA myself. :TU:

    for what it's worth...

    Hi..

    I have a 90 Maxima SE..3rd (Best!) generation car..have owned it for 13 years...bought it new.

It is probably the best car I have (or may ever) own in terms of reliability, driveability and sport at an affordable (in 1990) price.

I loved my original '72 Skylark Sport Coupe, I have fun with my current '72 Custom Convertible...but the Max SE probably beats everything in the above categories..

BTW..I am now about to start fighting the Northeast rust on the Max..it has some in the wheel whells and low on the front of the body member. It's a lot to ask a car to last forever in the snow and salt of New England.

Cool man, I wasn't flaming ya. I just feel sorry for ANYONE who buys a Caddy "NEW".

Ask your buddy if he'd like to have another STS.:bglasses:
I'd gladly (give it away:af: :ball: ) I mean sell it.
