Hi guys....This post is for my brother. He is in the market for a new car.

He has decided between the 04 Accord and Maxima.
He has owned Honda's before with much success, but never a Nissan.

So anybody in the know shed some light on this topic, so we can aid in his decision making process.

    -What are the advantages?
    -Strengths and Weaknesses
    -styling

He will be reading this thread too.

    Thanks in advance
    Josh

    What about U.S.A.

Have you considered the Impala L.S. or soon to be released S.S. Awesome car. Stylish very roomy and quick to boot. There are also many performance parts made for it.:Brow: I get many great comments on mine and I love it. Just thought I'd toss this out there. Good luck:beer

The Maxima is built 45 minutes from my house. I know several people that drive them and a few @ Nissan. I believe it to be a quality built car. On the other hand nothing holds RESALE VALUE like a Honda.:TU:

Personaly I'd go the Maxima route. It's a bit bigger and has more performance and standard features than the accord. Reliability of the Maxima has always been really good too. Everyone I've talked to that has one really likes them.

Tell him to drive them both on the same day and see which he likes the feel of better.

As for the impalla........... man you really get hit hard resell wise, plus the fit and finnish isn't quite as nice. Personally the only GM car (not truck) I'd buy new was the F-body (SS - WS6) and they killed those off :af:

Although I won't be trading in my Chebby,( I will be giving it to my new fiance!! and buying the S.S. when they come out) I have not problem with the fit and finish of the car. Plus you can't go wrong with the 3800 Series 2 engine. But you gotta have the Maxima. Better style.

import guys like hondas cause there "easy to work on"

my honda isnt too bad (the one in the above picture. also has 186k miles on it. only changed CV joint trans refresh. (syncrho needed work at about 120k clutch was same time) alternator was needed too (only one)

alhough i would look really hard at the nissan... (i like the styling more on the new nissans)

    Josh,

I am a color stylist for PPG Industries and responsible for the Nissan color design. I dont think you can go wrong with either of the vehicles but I will say (in my opinion) that Nissan has much nicer colors than Honda!!!!

I have also spent some time at the Smyrna, TN plant and the new Canton, MS plant. The Nissan management stresses quality 110% of the time!

    Good Luck!!!

I believe the new maxima has an option for a very nice powerplant (265 hp!!!). Plus, with the new styling. It would be very hard for me to pass up. I bought an Accord for the wife two years ago and it has done well. Hondas are reliable, but I am pretty sure Nissans are as well. Every car make will have its flaws. It would come down to styling for me and Nissan's new lines DEFINETELY HAVE IT!!!

I haven't been in a new Nissan Maxima so I don't know about them from that stanpoint, but I know when my wife and I shopped around we liked the interior in the Accord. Then again, both have new bodystyles and interiors.

I am sure you've been to www.edmunds.com to compare side by side.

Of course there is a $3-5000 price difference as well.

    Just my 2 cents

Sorry, actually the 265hp is standard.

    Honda's V6 is 240hp.

A question that I've got some experience on, we just replaced my wifes car late last year, she had a 93 Maxima, probably the best car that I or anyone I've ever known has owned, 180k miles and only routine maintenance, 25+MPG, and a great comfortable ride.
We were out to replace it with a 2-door though so Nissan didn't really have a car for us, we drove the new Accord EX Coupe, terrible ride quality, and way to much road noise, lotsa power and a great interior layout. Also drove the Toyota Solara, Infiniti (Nissan) G35 and the Acura CL, we bought the CL, bang for the buck factored in, the G35 coupe was brand new and they weren't dealin on the price, it was a nicer car all around but was another $5k, not to mention that the Acura line has a nearly flawless Consumers Report's record.
Nissan builds quality stuff I would buy it again no doubt about it.
I know I'll offend a few hear but since I own two GS's and drive and International Scout everyday to work I'm entitled. The new domestic passenger cars simply do not stack up against the import (especially Asian) counterparts, both in intial and life cycle quality they are proven (not percieved) to be inferior products. Nothing would make me happier than to own all american vehicles but I will not spend the same money on a lesser product.
Thankfully just this year Cadillac moved into the top 5 for intial quality, they are the only domestic in the top ten I beleive, and next time I buy a new car I will look closely at them but, come on! One domestic in the top ten in the country that pioneered passenger vehicles! We got along way to go.

both good cars-i have experience working on both-but-the honda rear sheet metal is BUTT UGLY!!!!! while i view the accord as an excellent car, i couldnt own anything that ugly. i would also be swayed by the nissan horsepower-i say go nissan in this case!!

Yeah, I have to second that. Honda really screwed up the rearend of the new Accord. The coupe is not as bad as the sedan, but still not great.

    Josh,

I have had 2 03 Maximas this year and a couple back in 1997. The older ones got better mpg than the 03's but the 03 255 horse is fun to drive. The brakes are GREAT. The 04 will be a heavier car than the 03 since its bigger. The one thing I did notice on the 03's is the hood bounces and lifts at high speeds. I don't think the hoods are adjusted properly. The trunk has a cardboard cover over the spare tire. I sent a couple of 455 heads in the truck and it colapsed because they have it held up with styrofoam pads on the tire.

The ride is pretty stiff in the 03s but its fun to drive on the clover leafs. Tends to push but just let up a little and it grabs again.

I have had Accords and the V6 just doesn't do it for me.

I would go with the Nissan myself but your brother needs to drive each and compare. Remember to pick both the rough and smooth roads.

You can also go to a car rental company rent each for a day and that will give you an idea on what the car will be like after they have 10 to 12 thousand miles on them. This may be a problem since the Nissan would be a new model but I think they should be getting the new ones in soon.

I dunno which to pick, neither of these cars are anythnig that are particularly stunning to me... in fact, I think they are both quite ugly. I just have a prejudice against Accords newer than '93 ... I just haven't found one that I liked I suppose ... my '90 is 50 miles from 200,000

One tip I heard a while ago but it sound like he wants a new shiny car.

" Why buy a new car? If you put $200 a month in to a car you liked, hopfuly you already own it. You would not only end up with the sweetest ride in town with anything you could want and save about $300 a month."
