If this is one of the cars that I know of people were sent to prison because they were supposed to go to the crusher. Buick was not happy about it.
I need to talk to you about this one. Put me in line please. If you can, PM me a phone number where I can reach you tomorrow. Or, try me this afternoon at 512-589-0833. Thanks Frank
I don't really understand this "factory conversion!" excitement in the title of this thread. There were 1750 Riviera convertibles built for model year 1983, regular production, just a low total.
For model year 1982 Buick also sold Riviera convertibles, and these were converted by ASC. But every Riviera enthusiast knows that for model year 1983 Buick built the Riviera convertible, so why put "factory conversion!" in the title ?
Hey Erik! Far be it for ME to start something, but help me understand ...If I read you post correctly, "LOW PRODUCTION" doesnt mean a thing.? I dont quite understand...heres why... There were almost 10,100 GS's built in 1971 and 81 of them were stage 1 Convertibles..right? THOSE 81 are very rare, RIGHT? WHY then, is this factory Converted LOW PRODUCTION (as you say) 1983 Riviera NOT even slightly rare?? o No: Explain. and Oh, one last thing...I DO NOT CLAIM to be a RIVIERA ENTHUSIAST....Never was. never will be. The OWNER of the car was adament about the fact that it is a FACTORY CONVERTED CONVERTIBLE....NOT converted by American Sunroof Corporation out of Brighton Michigan, but by the BUICK factory. So, being the total Riviera idiot I am, I listed that information in the ad. If you will sleep better tonight, I will remove it for you. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
So you meant "low production!", but for some reason you ended up typing "factory conversion!" in your title..o No:
According to this, they were all converted by ASC from '82 thru '85. That's the way I read it. http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/a/asc/asc.htm "1982 would prove to be a most important year for American Sunroof, Prechter reorganized the company and shortened its name to ASC, Incorporated, and Buick debuted the ASC-built 1982 Riviera Convertible. Prechter had chosen the front-wheel-drive Buick Riviera as it classic good looks made it an attractive convertible. Costs were worked out to the last penny, and Buick brass approved the car for a limited run during the 1982 model year. Despite its nearly $30,000 price tag, the car sold well and production at ASCs Linden, New Jersey plant was extended through 1985." I guess this really has nothing to do with the sale of this car, and technically goes against board rules. :bglasses:
....apparently the asking PRICE is the only thing I know about this car. Sheeesh. Getting flamed for a descriptive line in my ad title wasnt at all what I was expecting when I inserted the last line of the original text: "If you have any informative facts and figures on this particular car, please contact me"... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Did you contact Frank about the car ? Maybe there's another Road Trip in it for me, driving a convertible from Tampa Bay, Fla. to Austin, Tx. :bglasses:
