1983 FACTORY CONVERTED RIVIERA convertible! 128K original second owner miles! Garage kept! Well maintained! A daily driven, STRONG running, excellent driving, economical 5 litre, 307 carbureted V8 with automatic overdrive tranny! One original color repaint, BRAND-SPANKIN-New TOP, new tires, rebuilt air suspension system, power everything: windows, door locks, BOTH power seats work and driver side has about a gazzilion movements! Original AND "WORKING" Delco AM/FM cassette radio with, get this... DOLBY noise reduction AND AUTO REVERSE...WOW ( you know you got the best-of-the-best when your cassette has Dolby AND auto reverse, huh!), and power antenna. F&R seats are in excellent condition! Rebuilt convertible top mechanicals, TILT, Cruise, rear defogger, Cold a/c and more I cant remember! Ohh yea, this car has NEVER been in an accident, no rust/no bondo! Everything works except one rear window, the interior rear view mirror needs to be glued back on the glass...and the antenna runs but doesnt move the antenna...thats about it! $5500 CASH and drive it home! If this is one of the cars that I know of people were sent to prison because they were supposed to go to the crusher. Buick was not happy about it.

So, was it AFTER 1983 that Riv vert's were offered from the factory? 85/86?

 

I don't really understand this "factory conversion!" excitement in the title of this thread.
There were 1750 Riviera convertibles built for model year 1983, regular production, just a low total.

 

There were Riv ragtops before '83, but they were converted by an outside vendor (ASC, I believe).

 

For model year 1982 Buick also sold Riviera convertibles, and these were converted by ASC.
But every Riviera enthusiast knows that for model year 1983 Buick built the Riviera convertible, so why put "factory conversion!" in the title ?

 

Hey Erik! Far be it for ME to start something, but help me understand ...If I read you post correctly, "LOW PRODUCTION" doesnt mean a thing.? I dont quite understand...heres why... There were almost 10,100 GS's built in 1971 and 81 of them were stage 1 Convertibles..right? THOSE 81 are very rare, RIGHT? WHY then, is this factory Converted LOW PRODUCTION (as you say) 1983 Riviera NOT even slightly rare?? o No: Explain. and Oh, one last thing...I DO NOT CLAIM to be a RIVIERA ENTHUSIAST....Never was. never will be. The OWNER of the car was adament about the fact that it is a FACTORY CONVERTED CONVERTIBLE....NOT converted by American Sunroof Corporation out of Brighton Michigan, but by the BUICK factory. According to this, they were all converted by ASC from '82 thru '85.
That's the way I read it.

I guess this really has nothing to do with the sale of this car, and technically goes against board rules.
