That is not a fair comparison because most likely the basket case will have been bought in the rough by the seller and there is very little out of pocket recovery to be had. If it is still owned by a longtime owner he will also have very little out of pocket to recover. In this case the out of pocket is real and recovery of the whole amount will be attempted.

This illustrates one of the cardinal rules of muscle car ownership:

It is almost always cheaper to buy one finished as opposed to buying one in the rough and sending it out for resto.

A quick way to determine market value of a restored car-

Add up parts and labor then divide by 2= market value:laugh:

Tell me about it. We would all be alot richer.

Our problem is that we don't see a gutted, primered project. We only see the finished product

Plus its alot easier to explain $200 new door panels, than a $30k car you have to bring home in the back of a pickup truck

Let's see the figure at which the "reserve on" light goes out.

I think the reserve light went out at 15,000

What Nick was willing to accept and what he gets will be two totally different amounts. From speaking with him yesterday there are quite a few board members wanting and offering to buy it now but I think he will wait it out, my guess is thirtyish but hey what do I know. To me 25k would be okay but anymore and you may as well cash in some more and like Mr. Lore said buy a finished one, didn't John out of N.C. get around 70k for his last year? Bill

Steve Klein just sold that black one with the red stripe on ebay for $30k. I don't know if the carb was correct but at least it was in one piece.

Looks like I am going to stay out of the bidding...nice, nice man and the car is complete but I have a feeling the bidding will go higher that I am wanting to spend on the project.

Yes Mr Wade I'm pretty much with you, the car still needs the underside and frame done as it hasn;t been touched yet and even though lots has been done, lots still needs doing. Bill

For those that have spoken to him please clear up this resto nightmare. I am not in the position to purchase but would like to know what he got for 20K. I am not real clear on what the shop did except dissassemble and sand the fender? Since I am not buying I don't want to bother him. I bet that there are others that would like to know what to expect for 20k at a resto shop. Since Jim made the statement that it looked like 20k to him I just wanted to clarify what that meant. It looks like Bill is right, if you buy it for 25k then have to spend another 50K you would do very well to buy a car finished.

Very cool car! For cars like this one, the market may not be as soft as people think!

A 69 Copo Camaro survivor sold on Yenko.net last week in less then 8 hours. Asking price was 300k. It was a best of breed car. Don't know what it sold for but it created alot of interest.

    That Buick is hot!!

Who's in on this one? The seller told me a man in WA and a man in Canada really seemed hot for it. Nice guy!

At 25,000 PLUS the cost to finish IMHO a person will be in this car for a lot more than it is worth today. But who knows, maybe by the time the car is finished the market for muscle cars will be back. John, if your car wasn't brown and brown I would have been in my driveway last spring. It's a beautiful car, but brown just isn't my color. I had a 70 Stage 1 4 speed that was Burnished Saddle and sold it because I didn't want to change the factory color. I think your car at 30,000 is a nice buy compared to this one.
    Just my .02.

I'm still in but just barely, maybe if my wife is willing to downgrade the kitchen in the new house from cherry to alder but that's highly unlikely. Is there a way to tell where the high bidder is from, his ebay name is showtime. Bill
