Carl...the 7042242 would be for a 72 Stage 1. The base 455 in 72 was a 7042240. Check out George's site----->www.buickperformance.com. look under Rochester carburetor decoding and ID guide.
S1 carb I've been following this thread (and the auction) with some interest...one of the big reasons the 'X is on Ebay is I have found the original engine for my 70 GS and think the funds would be better invested in getting one car to a #2 level, rather than having 2 cars at a # 3 level! When I sold the GS in 83 for $1800 after the machine shop went broke (later bought it back) most of the engine parts were in the trunk, but we couldn't find the carb...buyer was quite perturbed so I gave him $50 off! If either of us had a crystal ball back then I probably would have had to just give him the car... Watching these auctions reminds me of something a buddy told me years ago while we were both playing with hemicars (both of us have grown up since) and crying about the price of parts; he said buy it while you can't afford it, 'cause next year you won't be able to afford it even more!
Carl, Yup, that's the real deal....where are you gathering this info that says otherwise?? Somewhere online? o No:
Carl, I've actually used quite a few different sources. The link below is one of them and later on today, I'll post a page from my 72 chassis manual... http://www.blake.com/oemcarbs/partlist.htm
Brett, Thanks for the spec. sheet. Look like the main difference in the stage 1 carb is the main metering jet. Is there any other physical differences?
Thats funny , he calls me a collector ou: when you read the article , they quoted me my conversation with the editor . He did make a few mistakes . I sold my 71 GS because sb gs cars aren't selling for anywhere near what they cost to restore. My attempt at the time to buy a grille was not working . I bid 840.00 on a broken grille only to be sniped at the end. :af: I spent close to 8500.00 on this car including parts and paint The grille thing was just the straw that broke me. If I had bought the grille for 2300.00 what could I have gotten 5500.00 ? He calls my Stage 1 Suncoupe a 71 .
1805.00 as of right now  . I cant wait to see how this ends Imagine if you had a box of these? you could retire!
It jumped $800.00 in a matter of 25 minutes and there's still just under 3 days left....insane!! You know, you could end up being the eBay user who's got the most $$$$ for 2 of the most sought after OEM/NOS Buick GS parts out there....quite a distinction... :bglasses:
The reason it's going so high is because of the date, it's good for about half the 70 GSX's out there. Duane
Stop the insanity I love this stuff, keep that buick stuff going up up up up The last Muscle Car Frontier :beer
You won't belaughing if you need something for your car . I hope he gets a million for his carb but I hurt everytime I thik about trying to piece together a correct Stage 1 . I can see the dolllar signs in the eyes of a lot of Buick owners . I didn't pay that much for the last 70 Stage 1 car I owned . I bought a 4spd project running with wrong engine and rear for 1800.00 in 1999 . I see more restorable cars being hacked up for parts . Oh well I may never have that 70 4spd Stage 1 , lost just as the GSX dream I had was when the wrecked one sold for 15K
