So as not to TOTALLY hijack Mike Sobotka's parts wanted thread, here's the auction... In the last hour or so this has jumped about $300.00 bucks....last one on eBay made it to (I think) $1300.00 and change and the reserve wasn't met... This should be interesting as these seem to be popping up less and less as of late...
I know my stage 1 will never have the correct carb. way to many other places to better spend the resoration funds.
What's interesting is, I scored this on eBay back in '03 for chump change.... $250.00. :Brow: NO one else BID on it!! What was I supposed to do?
Brett...were you wearing a mask when you won that auction??  I know, THEY forced you into it!! ou:   That was a steal!!! Didnt you have an NOS one a while back? I recall a Hemming ad. Did you ever sell it?
I know! I couldn't believe no one else took a shot at it. The opening bid was $250.00 and that's where it stayed....the NOS one went about a year ago, in Hemmings, you are correct. I got that from Mark Smith out of Texas.. In fact, I think it's for sale again. Look at the 3rd column of the classifieds in the latest GSX-tra. I don't remember if the guy I sold it to lived in Florida but how many "unused" 72 Q-Jets can possibly be kicking around?? uzzled:
lol...thats funny. I didnt even catch the seller name and the location...duh! ou: Good luck on the carb auction Dustin. You should do very well. Looks like a nice piece! BTW...Does this article from Dec 04 Hemmings Muscle Machines show a picture of your NOS 71 GS grill you sold on Ebay? If it is, I can cut the page out and send it to you
Jason, I dont think that was my picture. The box for my grill was not that white and clean. It was my grill they are talking about in the article though. 2125$ That was passed by the 67 NOS grill that went for 2126$ awhile back. The funny thing is a got that grill and this Stage 1 carb in a package deal. The two GS's I got in the deal were sitting outside. The seller said when I was looking at buying them that some punks stole the good carb off the one motor ou: I looked at the one that was still there and it was the Stage carb. :eek2: They probably took some crappy holley that was on the other car....lol What luck? I just need the funds to help get my project moving. I hope it finds a good home. Dustin
Rob, Someone just stuck it in there at some point....don't ask.... uzzled: No matter, before it goes on the car, it will get rebuilt and what's supposed to be there will be intact... :bglasses:
Jesus! 860.00 and climbing! I got my 246 carb as a package deal. Found it in a repair shop in a box of other GS parts including an air cleaner. Owner of the shop owned a pro street-ed 70 GS. He saved all the stock parts. Bought the whole box for 50 bucks with the air cleaner! A few weeks he sold me a 70 BB trans for 100. I wonder what thats worth? That carb is now sitting on my 70 :beer
That's amazing.... $150.00 for all that stuff..... Did that car (the 70) come with the other "Stage specific" stuff or did you have to hunt that down as well? Or did you already have it hanging around?
Brett- The Stage specific items that were missing on purchase was the carb and distributor (naturally). I aquired both shortly after buying the car. I also picked up an NOS 1100774 (with the ink stamp) alternator for 170.00
carb I'm thinking along the same lines, at some point this turns from a hobby into MADNESS :eek2:  spending that kind of dough on something takes all the fun out of it
yea its nice selling when you get this kind of money but what happens when the parts are worth more than the car and that is why people are parting out more and more GS cars now for some that is good = less cars means yours is worth more Bad= less and less people in the club I know a few Buick guys have now gone to other brands to keep from spending the major $$ needed to have a FUN car I know for me I have parted out many a GS as of late and have 4 I am parting out now as it cost more to fix them than they are worth... I myself am done after this my last GS once it is done I plan to keep it and have fun but have to say if it goes to far in cost this will be my last one I own and I am off to buy something else HOWEVER like Dustin I am selling off parts to fund my own project and very much wish for Dustin to get the Big $$ to help him on his project :beer As they say you cant have it both ways
Ryan, Thanks for the kind words!! This carb was stripped long ago off a Stage car. I think I have the original hood and Stage valve covers but that is all he must have removed from it. I wish he would have saved the car but then it didnt matter as these cars were unwanted by many. Regards, Dustin
Brett, The pics you showed of that carb - is that suppose to be a stage1 carb? I show it listed as a 72 455 non-stage. Just looking for info here!
