Everytime I seee one of these, it makes me think about selling mine. :Do No:

What does the LK1929 mean again? Mine is LK0150

Scott, I'm not positive, but I believe the last number is the year it was built. Ex. 9=1969 and 0=1970. I believe the other numbers are the day it was built. "192" means it was built on the 192 day of that year. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is what it means.

On another note I'd love to have an original Stage 1 carb for my car. It's about the only thing on my car that's not original, but I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a carburetor (not at this point in time anyway).

    Brian,

Not for nothing....but....if this particular Q-Jet is the only thing you need for that car, you might want to think about shelling out some cha-ching.

The reason is simple: what costs $1000.00 this year, is going to cost close to double that in the not too distant future. Plain and simple.

I'm not goofing on you, by any means, for not wanting to drop the $$$ but I'm telling you, if you pull the trigger now and take advantage of the "opportunity", you'll be thankful in a year or two from now....

    I speak from experience....

These prices are quite out of control and their values will have to level off at some point. There are a lot of people making big money off Buick lovers at the moment and it is kind of sickening. If these Stage 1 carbs go up further past the 5-6K mark it is only going to push more people out of the hobby.

    Brett,

I know what you mean, but im in the process of building a motor/trans for my Buick b/c I want to take the original drivetrain out. I don't want to ruin it. I was told it has never been rebuilt so the proper oiling mods haven't been done. I do want one and I'm hoping that I'll have enough money to purchase one later this year. Eventually I want to do a frame-off resto, but I can't afford it right now so I'm going to have fun with it.

Several years ago when the mantra was" how come our Buicks aren't worth what the hemi's or LS 5's,or 'cudas are worth" ," We have to get the values up".
At that time I said,as I do now,Be careful what you ask for ,you might get it.
Well the Stage 1's and GSX's are going over 6 figures now,and parts are a function of what cars are selling for,ergo... high collector prices, high prices for the parts to restore them.Did anyone really think that if our beloved buicks started to command the big bucks the parts would stay cheap as they were 5-10 years ago,how naive'.
I feel sorry for the new guys wanting a GS already done or one to restore, they can't afford it,so clone is the answer. Also, the high values now make people leave the cars at home,"we can't race 'em ,might hurt it",or "its worth too much I can't take a chance on an accident".Again,be careful what you ask for..
But alas,me thinks its too late, high prices are now the norm and they will continue to climb,it doesn't matter to me,I already have my GS'S,but the new guy is shut out. From a selfish stand point, the high prices are a benefit to me with years of parts hoarded I'll do pretty well.
So,we've accomplished the goal ,our GS's are getting the respect they deserve and values are escalating,so we have to expect to pay the "piper" or don't dance.
Again, watch what you ask for...

Money is easier to get than rare parts.

When I see something rare, I buy it even if i don't need it.

Looks like I'll never have the correct carb for my car. I refuse to pay that much money for a carburetor. That is crazy

a restamped carb may be a good option for you if you don't mind not having the real deal

I've thought about that and that is the route that I am probably going to go. Once I have enough money to purchase one that is. I would have liked an original, but I thought $1500.00 was alot, but now at almost $3500.00. I can't see spending that on a carb. That is alot of money I could use elsewhere.

I've bought whole GS's for less. My, how times have changed...

  18. I have a few rare carbs stored over the years. Next year I think I'll sell them and build a new 4 car garage.

My feeling is "How fast can I get mine off the car, and up on EBay?" :dollar:

I can surely get another carb for my non-numbers matching car, that will work just as good and can use the extra $$ for some upgrades that I didn't think that I'd be able to do.

On one of the other forums (BPG) this is being discussed too and there is some talk about the final bidder being a shill for the seller to try and get the price up higher. I don't know who the seller or buyer was, so I'm not making any accusations, I'm just watching the banter about it to see if it was a legitimate auction.
