1970 SS Block Questions

    No Stage1s made in Freemont CA in 1970 (or 1969). That started in 1971 and continued in later years :TU:

    Here is an example of what the SS code might look like. These stampings are difficult to ID and often partially obscured by the cylinder head.

    I've got an SS block that has no VIN. It was ordered by a dealer here in MD in 1972 (complete 70 Stage 1 replacement motor).

    I was going to throw it away since it was in the racecar and the main web broke off in one spot. But...a welder said he could fix it and then line hone it. He said he wouldn't say that it would hold up to 600 hp but that at stock levels it would. Like a driver....

    I'm still inclined to dump it....

    Any thoughts?

    Remember, one's junk is anothers gold mine! I think there are many that would want that block.:Smarty:

    Well if you think it can be fixed don't chunk it. An SS w/o VIN would be a great block to get.
