    1970 Buick Skylark (SOLD!!!)

CAR IS SOLD. Please hold your calls and letters. Thank you.

I have decided to part ways with my Skylark. My priorities have changed, and I need the money to help fund the purchase of a RV. This fine old Skylark has been my "hobby car", my weekend toy, and a trustworthy "2nd car daily driver" since 1994. After a minor fender-bender car wreck a year ago, it has been nothing but a headache and a heartache. You can read the whole long and sad story at my online photo hosting page:

    http://cja.smugmug.com/

There you will find MANY photos and ALL the information required. Car is garaged out of the weather in Midland, TX. I hold the clear title. Safety inspection and registration (tags) are current. It runs perfectly, and can be test driven just fine. The front tire will rub the inner fender if you don't go slow over the big bumps. A out-of-town buyer might want to bring a trailer to get it home, although I would not hesitate to drive it cross-country as it sits.

I am asking $8,000 for the car "As Is". Please don't flame my asking price until you read the complete story and package description at my SmugMug page. Thank You.

Thanks, Eric, and by the way, EXCELLENT choice of color on your Skylark! Do you happen to know what the paint manufacturer and paint code is?

    Ken,

I don't know the paint code. That's my biggest problem with getting the car repaired after the fender-bender. I was told by the PO when I bought it that it was painted (in 1993) with Sikkens base coat clear coat. Several years later (in the late 90's) I wanted to get some touch-up paint, so I took the car to a Sikkens paint distributor, and we attempted to locate the paint code using those big books of color chips. At that time, I wrote down "Sikkens colormap position 319E5" on his business card. That is all the info I have, and it has not been helpful in this recent situation. I am sure a competent restoration shop could figure out how to match the paint, but unfortunately we don't have one in my neighborhood. Eric (see post above) has a Skylark painted what looks to be a similar color - you might talk to him if you are looking for more paint info.

Sounds like a nice car and really worth the price. I just sold my 70 Skylark.

I think you are hurting your offering with the description of tire rubbing the fender, trailer ect. The fender is toast so put a steel strap behind the depressed area over the wheel and use a tube hydralic jack off the frame or a "come along" puller from beside the car to get the fender to clear the wheel. Get it drivable, further damage to the fender doesn't matter. Might want to have it alligned and have the report to show no frame damage to prospects too. Just a thought.

Mention to the next owner, after your deal is done, to look at replacing the AC evaporator while the fender is off. The one piece box requires removal of the fender to replace.

    Chuck,

Thanks for the comments - you make some good points. I was sorta thinking along the same lines. In fact, I was at the local Harbor Freight store this past weekend eye-balling one of those 4-Ton Portable Hydraulic Equipment Kits that they have on sale. Looks like it would work well for "adjusting" the fender back to where it won't interfere with the tire. Plus it would be fun to play with...

Will also consider your idea about getting the alignment checked, and the frame inspected. The tire and wheel were not touched when the other car hit me, so I know there isn't any damage to that area. But also understand a potential buyer might not take my word for this fact.

I thought about changing out the heater blower motor while the fender was off (I have a brand new fan motor ready to be installed), but did not think about the A/C evaporator. Good idea - thanks!

I've looked at this a dozen times and thought hard about it but the closest I'll be is passing through Amarillo on I-40 between Phoenix and Nashville with a 22 year old daughter that has no appreciation for anything made in the last century.
