For sale : 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. QQ -Saturn Yellow. 77,xxx miles. Wayne Roberts documented and was number 637 in sequence. Originally a 4 speed car that I converted to automatic. All of the parts were saved to convert it back.
The original engine was blown and junked back in the '70s. I put in a well built 1970 SF code 455. The engine is standard bore, 11:1 ross pistons, 238/248 cam, fully ported '70 stage 1 heads, Wildcat Dominator intake and a 1050 Dominator carburetor. Mallory/ MSD ignition. TA 1 7/8" headers and 3" exhaust.
The M21 4 speed that was in the car did not match the vin #. The Turbo 400 that is in it now is well built with a manual valve body and a custom built 9" billet steel converter. The GSX behaves extremely well on the street and runs on unleaded premium gasoline.

Many pics, head flow numbers, dyno results, and a video of the GSX with commentary can be viewed on our website. Here is a link: http://home.twcny.rr.com/qqstage1/

As the weather continues to break, I will add more pics of the car. The car is solid. I don't have any pics of the underside.
The price for the car is $75,000 or best offer.
Contact Joe @ 607-280-4579 before 9 PM east coast time or by email. This is Laura Heisey's car that I have maintained for the last 11 years and I'm posting it for her so I can help the prospective buyer with tech information. Her profile name on this board is qqstage1. You are also welcome to contact her but you'll end up speaking to me at some point.
Laura and I hope this car goes to someone in the Buick community who will drive and enjoy it. Thank you for looking at the GSX.

Thanks very much for posting the url.

Joe has all pertinent technical information, and he stores the car at his house as well. He knows every inch of the car. I've given him the documentation that Wayne sent me, which he's happy to share with interested parties. The only information I can provide, really, is that I've owned the car for 12 years, I know a little history, and the car is awesome. I'll be very sorry to see it go. It has a clean title.

A big reason I'm selling it is that it isn't driven near enough. This place is too dangerous. The Ithaca area is crawling with young, bad drivers (two colleges that double the population during the school year), and the closest 1/4 mile drag strip is a good 80 miles away.

Ithaca is not much of musclecar town as far as I can tell, especially with regard to Buicks. I can count the number of interesting Buicks on one hand, and I have two of them. I want the GSX to go to someone who will drive it and enjoy it.

BTW, just to confirm, the car is located in the Ithaca, NY, area.

Joe made a minor mistake on the mileage on the odometer- it's 77,473 unless he's driven it today. :3gears: He's fixed that detail in his original post.

I bought a new digital camera yesterday and Joe took some *way* better pictures of some of the really important stuff - cowl tag, engine compartment, etc. It's supposed to be a lot warmer tomorrow, so he'll probably take more then. You can see what we have so far by following the GSX photos link on my web site - home.twcny.rr.com/qqstage1 - there's a hyperlink in earlier messages in this thread. I don't have enough posts yet to include a hyperlink in my messages. I'm not a very chatty gal.

The video I've linked to from the web site is not the greatest quality but I think Joe's commentary throughout is very useful. It includes a tour around the car, explanations of a lot of what he's done with the car and why. He has the car running for part of the video. I love how the whole car moves when he gives it a little gas.

$75,000 obo. Please contact me with general questions (ljh2@cornell.edu or 607-351-6262) or Joe Armstrong with general questions (jaa44@cornell.edu or 607-280-4579) with technical questions.

I want very much for this to go to a Buick enthusiast. I truly believe no one else would appreciate it.

    Cheers,
    Laura

    wow.
If you take the car out to local shows or the drag strip this summer, I would love to see the car in person.
High powered Buicks in this area and at the nearest two dragstrips are a rare sight.
The '74 Cutlass(?) in the background looks pretty decent too.

I doubt that I'll ever drag race the car again. I raced it just to get a time slip to authenticate it as an '11 second car.'
Laura uploaded some pics I took today of the GSX. I'm going to put some maintenance miles on it tomorrow, that's always a treat.
Soon I will convert a video of the GSX and post it of me at the drag strip crushing a Camaro in route to getting thrown off the track for running too fast with out a roll cage and extra safety equipment.

Joe and Laura, what would it take to put the 4-speed back in? I think, Laura and I ran each other in BG in the Ladies Race in 1996, I'd love to have a 4pd X, but I'd have to rid myself of GSX #14 that needs complete resto first, unless, of course someone wants a project with all the parts, NOS, for about $50k or so.

    Hi Roberta,

I'm not the Laura you raced, but I'm sure I saw the two of you race. If I hang on to my GN, it would be a good car to learn on.

I'll let Joe address the 4-speed issue. We still have all the parts and they'll go with the car if the buyer wants them.

The 4-speed that was in the car would pop out of third gear. A synchronizer issue. I saved the pedals, linkages, etc. A new flywheel, clutch and throw out bearing would also be needed. the Hurst linkages would also need cleaned up and serviced.

I screwed up the url that points to the photo gallery for a couple hours. Duh. Sorry to anyone who tried to look at the gallery. It works now.

I'll dig up that time slip Joe mentioned and post it when I get a chance.

Joe took a bunch more pictures today, and took it on a ~60 mile drive. It's just as healthy as can be. He took his neighbor, a retired cop and hotrodder from way back, for a ride and the guy was hanging on for dear life! Too much fun!

    Bump ...

Make me an offer ... it'd be hard for one of you guys to insult me. I'm asking $75K but I'm pretty darned flexible and I'm definitely interested in selling to someone in the Buick community.

Keep us in mind at the Nationals. There's no way we can get the car down there. Poor timing on my part. We'd be more than happy to talk to interested people though.

    Joe's at 607-280-4579 (before 9PM EST please), jaa44@cornell.edu, I'm
at 607-351-6262, ljh2@cornell.edu. The car belongs to me and I'm happy
to talk but Joe has all the technical expertise so you're better off
    calling him.

Pics, dyno results, etc., and a so-so video with really good narration and description by Joe at http://home.twcny.rr.com/qqstage1

the four speed stuff is there and complete correct? how much will it take to get the interior back to right for the four speed? I am interested, but as I have stated in a few other GSX ads, I am really not ready for a spell yet. I could be prodded to sell off the numbers vert to get the right car though

The transmission will need rebuilt. It would pop out of 3rd gear. I removed the pedals and replaced them with a power brake pedal.
I would pick up a new flywheel and clutch assembly too.
