You and many others Jim, most people don't relize just how bad it is.

Like I said in my post on the other thread, this add should NEVER been allowed to stay posted in the cars for sale here because the owner broke a couple rules right of the bat.

As far as you go, you knew where you where in the line up and you also clearly knew the rules about buying and selling here so there is NO accuse for your actions. Also :( I had the same opportunity you did and I did not take it, and by the way it seems it didn't take you long to bypass every one in line also.

    This is in your signature.

Rhett, I will eventually start another thread. Right now, the car is in my trailer and there's snow on the ground. Its probably trapped for a while.

You are a real smart one aren't you? I guess your not smart enough to figure it out and I hate to burst your bubble because I am sure you are thinking you are on top of the world right now after making such a witty observation/comment but
I am the one that put that in my signature, how do you think it got there? magic? I am not sure that the testing of speed parts etc has anything to do with you screwing the people that were is front of you on this deal but I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from someone that doesn't give a rats a$$ for anyone other then him self. It speaks volumes about your character or lack of.

Go easy on him. 10 days after this add showed up, no one had committed to buying the car. That gives everyone in line their 48 hours and more.

The check from my brokerage account just showed up at my house today. If Tim hadn't bought it, I would have and not felt bad the least.

If the owner tells me "GS spoken here" put a deposit down, I defer to him. But I think 10 days out, it's not my job to figure out if "PrairieCanary" got around to getting in touch with the seller. (not picking on you guys, just using the example)

If you want to look at it this way. I got "line jumped" too. And that's because I didn't have the cash on hand. Tim did. Next time I will too

The rules are for everyone to follow, what makes you guys above the rules? Its not like we can point a finger and say you bought the car out of a add in the news paper, as far as I am concerned don't let the door hit you is the ass on the way out! Some will say, all this over a car. I agree 100% right, its not about my need or greed for a car or I would have bought it out from under you guys when I found out that the seller didn't give a rats ass about anything other then the mighty dollar. You guys are whats wrong with the world we live in.

Although I doubt Tim thought it out to this extent, 10 days out gave the first 5 guys (and I was #5) the full 48 hours to either pull the trigger or cry in their beer. And if you go back and look, Tim was #6

So by that yardstick, nothing went wrong here. Let it go.

Car was posted on the 18th, today is the 27th, the car was in Grand Rapids, MI, it is sitting in your friends trailer in Amity Pa right now so that is not any where near 10 days, its not like its just a hour up the road. Your yard stick is only about 18 inches long:laugh: It is what it is :beers2:

Bad deal, all around, and I certainly hope that car is better than I think it is..

This car should have been put under the leads thread,If the owner wasn't going to follow the rules.

OK, 9 days. I take back everything I said.

Tim isn't my friend. He didn't call me to ask permission to buy the car, so that proves it right there. But he is the guy packed up 15k and drove 500 miles (?) to make the deal, sight unseen.

And to your point Jim, I needed to see more pictures before I made that kind of investment in time and money. I lose.

What really really surprises me about this whole deal, is how much interest this car got with so little important information in the ad.
Not once does it mention ANYTHING about ANYTHING being matching numbers, only says date codes are correct???Really?
Then, I asked the question, where are the rocker panel moldings that all GS's came with standard? It's not a re tagged Arizona skylark is it?

Lastly....this much Buzz over a triple brown car???Really??

Brown is my favorite color, always has been, but it's not for everybody, probably safe to say not everybody's favorite. They don't call it "hang around Brown" on car lot's because people break their arm trying to get their wallet out to buy Brown cars.

Good luck with the car Tim, hope it's everything it's supposed to be.

I know I'm new here but both the seller and buyer are identified, if there are no repurcussions for either then I think the rules are moot. Based on the comments by several here, there are varying views on personal integrity.

I kind of thought the title of the thread to some degree addressed this point: 1970 Buick GS 455 #s matching

If I reading this correctly, you are saying that you have seen people hold up the purchase of a car, then put together a deal to sell it right away to someone else after they buy it for a profit (that is what I would consider flipping). No, I can't recall having seen that happen before. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but I don't recall seeing it here in the Cars for Sale section.

    Tom -

I talked to he seller, he presented it as a fully documented numbers matching car. The rocker moldings were off in the pictures because he had had the nose off to replace the radiator support and hadn't put them back on yet There were pictures of them with them on in the phantom "picture disc".

By description he did a lot of the right work to the car, the right way. But there was rot in the wheelhouses and floors that I needed to at least get a visual on before I opened my wallet. Did anyone ever get the pictures? But hey, Tim had a good enough feeling to burn a day and couple of hundred bucks in fuel on spec...to the bold go the spoils.

But to your point, I liked the car but probably never would have loved it. The colors, the 2.93 rear, the option combo, none of it ever set me on fire. If it had, I would have burned the gas. And nobody knows better than you, there's ALWAYS another car around the corner...

And so we've established how wrong everyone was who disregarded the board rules, but did we establish what would have been the right way to sell this car? Link to a craigslst ad? In the e-bay section? List it as a lead? Would this seller's distaste for drama and games been more acceptable in another format or section? Or does a seller's preference for a straight up "best man wins" cash deal have no place on this board?

    Happy T-Day.

    Rhett,

    Really simple.

If you want to use this resource to sell your car, then respect the members who have created and maintain it, by following some simple guidelines for selling the car.

By far, this resource best targets the market for his sale, as evidenced by the fact that he sold it, because he advertised it here.

His actions dis-respected this board, and while some may feel that the "law of the jungle" is what we should go by, I'm sorry, I think we are better than that still.

I think we as a people and a car community can in fact think of someone but ourselves first.

We live in a "me first" world, and I see it's seeping into the thinking of our circles as well.

Consider the fact that there are guys who have sold much more valuable vehicles on this board, and they have in fact, considered how their sale would impact someone beyond themselves.

The posts that described this guy and his feelings presented a picture of someone with the "it's my car, and I will sell it any damn way I please"..

I couldn't agree more with that, but at the same time, would tell him.. yes, your correct, sell it on Ebay, craigslist, Hemmings, cars.com or whatever.. stick a sign in you lawn if you please.

But if your going to use this website, have enough common decency to follow the guidelines laid out for it's use.

Thanks for weighing in Jim, and thanks for answering my question.

I value the resources, knowledge and relationships this board has to offer, and am grateful to be a member. You and the others put the rules in place for a reason, and they afford participants more latitude than they are likely to find in other environments. No process is perfect, and there's potential for abuse from both the buyers and seller's perspective. I personally don't find fault with the seller's stance on this transaction but recognize your right to disqualify those types transactions here.

    Again, Happy Thanksgiving.

You have to admit there are those that say (in line) but never have any intention of buying. They just tie up the thread for days wasting the sellers and everyone else time. I see it all the time when browsing the for sale threads, some of the same users over and over again saying in line but never purchase. To me that is abuse of the rules forcing the seller to wait for no reason other than to be a pain in a$$.
