Yes, just look at the cover of the Original Parts Group Riviera catalog. It stands several inches tall when fully retracted. I didn't like it so I changed mine to a flush mounted aftermarket unit. But I still have the original. I can measure it if anyone cares.
Maybe my color opinion doesn't matter much anyway. I owned a Plum 66 Riviera GS and I loved that color.
Personally, I think it's the bomb! A beautiful example. Nearly perfect and priceless IMHO. If there wasn't 33,900 reasons against the idea, I'd be putting it in my garage. This car can bring that money in the right auction conditions, such as one of the larger Mecum shows. I owned a 1969 Riviera GS in Azure blue for a few years, and I can tell first hand that people admired that car more than any classic I've ever owned. Somebody literally said something everytime I stopped somewhere.
If you can flame a car as nice as this Riv you are either jealous or not a car lover let alone a Buick lover. And you can bet the guys who throw those, what it should be prices out there wouldn't sell for those prices if they owned the car. Bob H.
As we suspected the color held it back from getting near the $33k. I can honestly say if I had that car 21k would be about 6k too low for me to let it go unless I had already listed it 3 times over as many months and was desperate to sell. Even though its far from my favorite color, that condition is rarely found on a 41k GS/bucket console car. With restoration costs soaring, I think the market will eventually catch up as more people realize they don't have a any chance of restoring even a decent car to start with to that level for $20k and thats not counting their own labor. No not everyone wants a car which is that level but there are some. The fully documented frame up resto I'm doing has given me a new perspective on these things thats for sure.
I don't think the color held the bids down. I think $20,000 - $23,000 is the fair price for this car. If it were resale red I don't believe it would have got to $34,000
You are correct James especially because red doesn't do much for the 2nd gen Rivs nor was it offered in 69. If it was black with the black interior or say turquoise mist with a black top and black interior it would have generated much more enthusiasm and emotion which could have made someone pull the trigger at the $33k number........ but we'll never know. Fun to speculate though.
Someone on the board a while back had a black 69 Riv with a red interior. The word striking was somewhat of an understatement when it came to describing the color scheme. I once found a white Riv wit ha red interior. That was odd
Check this one out for Half the price... http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?265161-1969-Riviera-Factory-Re and it's factory RED (according to the seller)
Half the price for what I think is half the car. Can you see the difference? The 33k Riv is clearly on a different level.
If its factory had to be special order. Too bad they didn't show the paint code. http://rivowners.org/features/Ev_Stats/colortrim/68-69.html 1/2 the price but not even half the car IMO. Plane jane low optioned, standard interior. I've seen much nicer 68-69s sell for $10k.
I did. And, I agree with you.. I think $23,000 is a fair price for the green one And, I think the red one is realistically priced at $15,000
I didn't know that Rivs weren't offered in red before you pointed it out. Then, co-incidentally, last night I saw the ad for the red one. I thought it might further the discussion...
This is all academic at this point because I dont think any of us are going to drop 30 large, or 15 large for that mattter on another garage ornament. But....To put a different spin on it, could you turn the 15k one into the 33k one if you spend $8k? The lack of options on the red one is a dealbreaker for me. ---------- Post added at 09:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ---------- The red does kinda make it look like a fire chiefs carou:
There is one unusual option that I have never seen before for any 69 Riv. I think it has the reclining passenger bucket seat. Of course the disk brakes and cornering lamps are nice as well. Very nice Olive Beige Riv GS but it is a lot of coin. This Riv would likely win a show award at any Riviera Owners Association convention. Use the following link at Team Buick for the options for the 69 Rivs. http://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/69/images/69_options_riviera.jpg
I don't think the color is a deterrent from that car at all. The options, a GS...and that interior is drop dead. I would like to see a company like NPD pick up that car for an examplt to re-pop parts...esp. the GS specific stuff...not there is that much. That is awesome to me because its NOT black, white, or some other color with a black gut...like mine. I'd love to have it...33k isn't much cash these days for that level of car, let alone Riviera. Just my two cents...
