If my memory is correct, the center spokes are all 1 piece, and the hub is flat... Unlike the 69-72 hubs, which has a notch cut out for the lower spoke, which it tack welded on, correct?

I think you’re right. I have a ‘68 style and it’s one flat piece and about 4” deep. The later two piece ones are about 3” deep.

Edit: I’m thinking that Mike T.’s is right…

Every one that I have seen has the 3 piece wheel like the 69 up wheels. The hub for 67/8 is smaller. Olds sport wheels were flat. Corvette wheels may have been flat.

My 68 wheel is not flat and the hub has a cut out.

I’m beginning to think that Mike T’s (and the one Jason just found) are correct for ‘68 Buicks, and the flat spoke/deep wheels are ‘65-‘66 or so Corvette. GM consolidated a lot of part numbers down to essentially two numbers, one for deep, one for shallow (in my ‘73 book) but that doesn’t mean the cars were built that way.

These wheels were also standard on the '68 Hurst Olds and were options on the Chevelle and Camaro.

Looks much better installed. I take it off every winter to try and prevent it from cracking (hot / cold expansion and cracking).

That does look awesome. I have not been lucky enough to have one of these. Although I admit I think that horn button is ugly. Lucky for me it's impossible to find.

I got a nice red one from Fred. As pictured ;~)

Is there any chance of getting a '67 or '68 hub? Mine is on the larger '69 style (the wheel I have came from a corvette)

Cook, you're not stirring anything up! The wheel(s) I had from 68's (one from Sawzall from a 68 GS 400 4 speed) I could've sworn was a 1 piece, flat hub unit. I haven't owned another 68 wheel in years (maybe 7-10?).. Hence, my memory is off... I figured Trom and Patrick would weigh in and correct me.. Which they did! LOL

I don't even reember the last time I saw a nice, original '68 horn button listed for sale. Fred probably has 5 NOS units tucked away. The '68 horn button is reproduced by The Parts Place but it's not 100% correct.

Gary, do you know for sure that PP’s repro doesn’t have ‘BUICK’ on it or is that just in the photo to avoid the copyright gestapo?
If the actual part is lettered, then the only thing wrong would be the missing crack…

Hi guys, I had contacted TPP when they first come out & they assured me they do have the correct Buick letters in black on them. He said the picture was taken before the letters were put on. Also, I just sold an original horn button on the V8Buick site not too long ago.

I also have a couple of the original horn buttons.

1 on my ‘67 - looks great with my sport wheel.
Other one is on a shelf and could be had if someone wanted it bad enough.

Both have the required crack - that’s how you know it’s authentic!!

Is the crack always on the leg of the K? That's interesting. LOL.

In the early 1980’s, a friend of mine and his brother-in-law obtained the rights from GM to remanufacture the 1963 Corvette Wooden steering wheels. They were able to purchase a lot of the original dies, molds, and tooling needed to make the wooden steering wheels correctly. They sold the steering wheels for around $2,000 each. The picture that I have posted is of a center section before it was pressed into shape. He stated that it has a flaw in the machine work and could not be used.
