"I have a 66 true GS for sale and while it is not a Barrett Jackson car it is a show ready beautiful GS one of only 2047 convertibles made for 66. This car does not have a 401 it has a GS340 which was a late year option and a 3 speed automatic instead of the 2 speed ( verify through NADA price guide ) I don't know if it is a numbers matching 340 or not but it runs and sounds like new. Car has been painted and interior redone. Power top works radio works all lights work as they should. The only non working item on the car is the horn and I just haven't gotten around to tracking the problem with it as I work 2 jobs even in retirement. I have driven the car 3000 miles since buying it but I do not have a garage to keep it in. I am not really interested in trades and I know full well what it is worth but you can check that as well in NADA. The car has new flowmaster exhaust front to back and sounds like a muscle car of the 60's should sound. Sale is cash or cashiers check only and the only trade I would even consider would be if you have a Corvair convertible ( 4 speed only ) I would allow fair market value for it off my price but that's it as far as trades go. I do not need to sell the GS and I am in no hurry to sell it it is almost show season and this car will do well in them. Just kind of testing the water out here but do your homework on a 66 GS. Also this is a factory AC car the compressor is missing but everything else in there."

These late year options appearantly only documented by NADA price guide box selections.

Nice car, but I never heard of a 340 '66 GS. And I've been around '66 GS's for a LONG time!
There was discussion about a 1967 'GS ornamentation package'.

I'd guess it's most likely a real GS with a 340 drivetrain swap. The 340 was paired with a ST400 trans in the '66 LeSabre, and '67 Sportwagon.
Even the '67 GS340 had the 2 speed auto trans.
Obviously, this one has a '67 GS400 air cleaner and the wrong console. It's had some changes over the years.
Nice car, but overpriced considering it's lack of correct GS drivetrain.

The photos must be in chronological order--early ones are missing fenderwell trim and have cheapo parts store mirrors, later ones show the trim and correct mirrors. I'd strongly suspect it was 'assembled' from whatever was available at the time to drive and sell, and he's fixed some of it. Whether it was a GS that lost its nail or a 'lark that gained some emblems, I'd guess the latter.

There was a car on Ebay a few years ago a guy claimed was a 66 GS340. Nice car: 4 speed, maroon, 2 dr ht, no badges, I was the high bidder in 3 auctions but it never met reserve. I wish I had it. I had a 67 GS340 and I have 2 66 GS401s,I cannot substantiate the 66 GS340 story but I guess it's possible. If you like a car and you're willing to pay the money what else matters.

So now the story is different...
from--"it has a GS340 which was a late year option"
    to--"Somewhere in it's life the 401 was switched for a 340"
    Buyer beware!

maybe hes confused and thinks its a 340 horse....and with all the crap on the net maybe he confused horse power with engine size...my first guess..most people have no clue how they rate the motors in 65 66...wasnt the high HP nail head offered late in the year?

    looks like a 67 340 to me..

Ok, the new owner did post here about 2 weeks ago, asking if the 340 might be original.
Do the math, and he's had the car a month at the most. What's up with that?

Mark, the 340hp 401 became available in March 1966. Surprisingly, only 132 cars built.
