Alan, I know where one is. I don't believe it has any paperwork but it sure looked like the real deal. I checked the car out and it was numbers front-to-rear, including the original radiator with tag etc. Everything I checked looked correct. Car needs a total resto, and may not be for sale, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Call me if you are interested. Duane PS. I think it was the same blue one you guys were linking to.
Duane if that's the one I'm thinking of that Eldon had that I drove it really needed a frame off. I think he did a quickie and stuffed gorilla hair in the prolem areas. I could see it growing out of the inside rear wheel wells. Soon as I left I said to my friend why would anyone take a shortcut like that on a 1/77 car? Especially some who is into Buicks. o No:
Ken, The car I looked at was re-done like an old "used-car" would have been repaired in the day. Kind of like we used to do with old muscle cars we had in the 1976-1982 days, before they became expensive and we beat the sh** out of them. I could tell the idea behind the repairs was to keep the car looking good/running/driving so it could be enjoyed, and NOT to make it perfect or restore it. The nice thing about the car was the original pieces were all there, so once the body work was repaired it would have been a standard restoration. You would not have had to spend years trying to find the "rare" pieces. Now don't get me wrong, the car was in need of a total resto, and unless you could do some of the work yourself it wouldn't be cheap, but what I came to understand was how only a few people understood what they were going to have when it was finished. I mean this car had the ability to be the best of the best, for it's year. Good color combination, highest performance for the year, top goes down, plus a 4-speed, I mean what more do you want?......and all most people saw was a "car" that needed lots and lots of work. If I was in the market for a 69 I would have tried for this one, it would have taken a lot of work but would have been worth it in the end. Duane PS. When I saw it the rubber bushing on one of the front control arms was so bad the bolt/shaft was starting to eat into the control arm. Again, you could tell it was repaired to be driven only.:laugh: :laugh:
If it is the one I am thinking of, he sold it to a lawyer in Hanover; his name was John. The lawyer sold it for about 16K or 17K six or seven years ago. If it is the same one, I authenticated it for the new buyer as my friend owns an auto shop that was next door to the lawyer. I don't remember where it went to, and if I remember correctly it was on eBay and did not sell. It sold after it went off eBay. I do remember it had door frame, door, and sill plate rust. ALL NUMBERS MATCHED and the car was original except for the normal wear items. I liked it, and it ran pretty darn well, but needed some carb work.
Yeah I totally knew what the car was when I looked at it, but had to weigh out my options. Had my 69 hard top already that I had a sentimental attachment to and that's where all my money went. Story of my life though. Being in right place at wrong time.
