... Looking for the holy grail for us stepchildren fans

must be born a 1969 Stage1 GS400 Convert. 4-speed with original paper documentation to prove its lineage. Must contain original motor, trans, and rear end. Not looking for a basket case ... anything from decent drive on up may apply :TU:

I drove one back in the 90's and could have had it for 8K. I checked the drive train numbers and they all matched. Have no idea where the car ended up but it was in PA.

Stop WHAT ?!?!? PowerBall is tomorrow nite and I just bought the winning ticket. The guy at the counter told me so

First off, I have let exactly 2 slip through my fingers - the one you speak of where the drunk guy flipping out and offering to pay me to leave him and his buick alone :puzzled: and one where it was little more than a vin tag and an engine block ... and as a matter of fact, I did call Johnny Walker Or Jim Beam not too long ago. Not For Sale. Cameo is not my flavor of choice ...

Thats nice, but no man pedal

Ken - what was the color combo and option load

... and to those wondering, Yes Im serious :3gears:

May be time for a change in 2012

Alan, I never kept the VIN or body tag info, but it was that medium blue color from 69 (not turquoise like mine but darker). The top was down so I do not remember what the trim combo was. I think the interior was black though. The guy's name was Eldon.

I found 2 of them in the 80's that got parted out. One was black with a red interior. How many of those do you think they made? :spank:

Hmmm ... you're causing whats left of the gray matter upstairs to bump together. A guy named Eldon from Maryland ? helped me install the top weatherstripping down in BG the first year I drove it down (94 I think) - went through 14 hrs of torrential rain and literally was soaked while driving. I was telling the story in the parking lot, and he said "Find the weatherstrip tomorrow, buy some beers ... and we'll install it tomorrow nite right here in the parking lot" - and indeed we did !!

I also remember him selling a '69 here on the board I think many years ago ...

Mike Mike Mike... you're thinking of yourself not others. I was thinking I'd help someone into a nice fast red GS convert. while also helping someone else who needs to sell thier 69 stage rag pedal car - you may all call me Altruistic Al from now on

Of course, we're just flipping stones and seeing what turns up at this point

Yes! Actually Eldon Glatfelter I think it was and he was in York, PA. :) That is where I looked at the car. In fact I did not leave his shop empty handed. The decklid on my GS came from his shop. As I was walking out I said "got any plans for that decklid?" He said $50 and it's yours". The rest is history. I wonder what ever happened to that car???

Think that's the same Eldon I knew in GA. He moved back to PA. He used to work for Dave McIntosh and drive a GSX paint schemed '68 or 9 hardtop.

Probably the same Eldon, how many could there be? :bglasses:

When I was at his shop he was doing a frame off GTO of the 1st gen body style. Seemed busy at the time.

Mike - I LOVE your Cameo Cream Convert and it IS extremely classy ...

... in your garage  :beers2:

you know you're numero uno on the speed dial if Sport'nWood were to ever leave the garage :Brow:

I found Eldon on an internet search (Not like his name is John Smith ...) and called the business # ... left a message, we'll see if he gets back.

I think only the hood was painted GSX-ish

Yes, that is his name and he did live in York. I have his address on a box of reproduction '68 GS Stripes that he sold me. I made a window sticker for his '68 GS many years ago. I believe that his '68 GS coupe was blue I do not remember much about the '69.

I do not have an email contact address for him unfortunately.

It is never a bad idea to contact people that had cars for sale a long time ago. I found my '68 by going thru the classified adds of GSCA news letter and my GS had been advertised for sale 5 years before I called. They guy still had it and was in no hurry to move it but he was ready to sell.

Good work Chris! How about that?

When he's not refurbishing the dinette sets, Glatfelter works on Wheel Horse tractors in his garage, and plays on a vintage Ludwig drum set in the basement that he restored. He still has his first car - a 1968 Buick GS - restored, of course.
"Everything I have around me is vintage stuff," he said. "That's my comfort zone, I guess."

We can probably contact him and find out what he ever did with that 1 of 77 "ALAN"!

Edit - I emailed him to see what ever became of that car....
