To be honest I tried to buy a 69 428 CJ Cougar, 4 speed but I let dad (my financier) talk me out of it. Ended up buying a 69 Pontiac Catalina with a 428 and TH400 demo. Bare bones car, power steering and brakes, AM radio, no AC, with no other power options, dealer practically begged us to get it off the lot at a severely discounted $3650. Only reason I bought it was my cousin had a 69 Olds Delta 88 with a 455 that I thought was fast and I wanted to beat him. Did not become a Buick guy till dad came home with the 71 Electra Custom. Lime green of course! Mikey
In order, from this list: Buick,Pontiac,Olds,Chevy.I'm partial to the 64 through 67 A bodied GM products, especially the '67s. 67 GTOs and GS400s had the carryover body with advanced drive trains. Looking at the dash and over the hood,a 67 GTO(for me) is my favorite.
1970 Trans Am, preferably in Lucerne Blue. FWIW, I think it would have stickered at closer to $5000. Or more.
If we're deviating from Ethan's 4 listed, I'd have to strongly consider a 70 hemi Challenger or 440 six pack super bee near the top of my list at 16 years old as well. But that's mostly because my neighbor at the time was a Mopar guy, and his 70 440 bee was one of the first big block muscle cars i ever rode in where the driver let it all hang out and scared the -ish out of me...
I would have waited for a 71 with the HO 455 and high back bucket seats. Other than that same look. Nice car though. The 71 was the first car I ever tried to buy back in 77. I was 18 and I was $500 short.
I was always a Buick freak. In 1970 I was 23 and would have bought the Stage 1 GS with a 4 speed. I couldn't afford the whole car new so I put a Buick engine either nail head or newer version 400-455 in just about every car I owned until the family car bug caught up with me. Now I have my dream Buick in the 1985 Jim Weise 470 Powered Regal with Janis 200-4R trans. Roger On The Eighth Day God Created Buick
Yes on board with that choice, I take back my Superbird and vote YENKO, I would have bought a used 69 Yenko Camaro with my $4000.
For some reason I love the 67 GTX. Awesome lines and front and rear. Not to crazy about the dash area though.
If I were a young guy with $4k in my pocket, I'd walk into the Buick dealer and buy a brand new 70 Stage 1 4 speed in Aquamist. Man, that would be some car. Oh wait .....
In 1970 I tried to convince my dad to get a Wildcat. He pulled out his pockets and laughed at me. I actually wanted a 1959 Buick, and still do.
The Hide a way headlights On 1969 Impala ss 427 were very early production option. Available from August to end of October in 1969 production runStarting in November Caprice only option Also available in 1968 Alain
This was my "First" Rotisserie resto and most likely what I would have purchased........ 1969.5 440-6 Roadrunner in Rally Green! http://regcars.homestead.com/car23.html
Understood...but in 1970 some of us were actually able to buy one new...I count myself lucky to have lived in the golden age of American muscle cars...
