I watch about every car show there is and to be truthful i dont really like most of them. I only watch them to maybe learn some tricks of the trade or at least watch how some of these guys do what they do. The one i watch the most is probably Overhaulen with Chip Foose and only because the show has changed a bit and he now explains how some of the work is done. That Mark fella from Grave Yard Carz, while i admire he makes every car perfect like from the factory i would punch that SOB in the pie hole the 1st time he looked or talked down to me. Count Kustoms? Danny doesnt actually do the work, while he has a good imagination it is the guys behind the scenes making it happen. I do like how he drives around looking for cars, probably the best way to do it is catch people off guard with wads of cash. American street rod when Boyd was alive? Could not stand the show, no wonder why the guy died of heart problems, most likely the stress. Then there is that junk yard place in Texas "name slips my mind", i like how they pull cars out of the junk yard and make them streetable again. Some of the cars are decent and go for cheap money too. The Texas car wars, bunch of idiots IMO. Then there is this new one out now with that NASCAR fella, that is more about the history of cars and how cars have effected our culture. I like that show for the history of it. The Overhaulen show i can tolerate and watch, the Grave Yard Carz would be a good show if the owner stopped trying to be a boxer, respected his crew and made the show more about the cars and not drama. Show us what it takes to strip the car, replace the panels, rebuild the various drivetrains, put it back to original condition using OEM or restored parts. School us the differences and why. Show us what tools are used for what and when. I could care less about drama. Drama makes most of us change the damn channel. The texas junk yard place, well who doesnt want to watch a couple guys scrounge a junk yard for parts to restore a car from the same yard? Hell i just want to go there and walk around.
About the only cars shows I watch anymore are "Chasing Classics" and "Wheeler Dealers". I can't stand all the made-up drama in the other shows...
i have to say this.Mopars were junk when they were brand new i see these high dollar restos of Mopars and just shake my head. there is nothing to these cars compared to a GM product. you can literally take a road runner apart with a socket set and some screwdrivers Mopar restorers should charge half what it costs to restore a GM product
I completely agree bout the made for tv thing posing as a "reality" shows. I really enjoyed the first 5 or 6+ years of American Chopper, you could just tell that the arguments between the 2 Pauls were genuine. It made the show more interesting and gave it some depth, until they concentrated too much on the drama and got away from the shop stuff. My favorite car show is def Overhaulin. Like or hate him, nobody can deny that Chip Foose is the real deal. He is an awesome designer, artist, and fabricator who is not afraid to get his hands dirty and has unreal vision. The more detail and craftsmanship that is shown and explained, the more I like it. Its so much better than a bunch of terrible acting fools!
Well here is one for you. Am I the only person in the world to see the female sex toy on tool box on the season finale? I had to stop and go back to confirm what I thought I saw. Its at about 27 minutes into the show when they are leaving for the night after working on the Daytona. What the hell is that doing there?
Maybe its the way his employees told him he's a dildo! I just watched this show yesterday. Finish on a Daytona. Mark and the owner took it for it's first cruise and the hood was aligned so badly it stood out llike a sore thumb. I agree about the made up deadlines, unneeded drama. I watch for the cars and that's it. If it were just about the restorations then only car guys would watch.
Golf? Gotta admit that I used to think golfers were a bunch of sissies, 'til I used that ball washer! Painful. It's "Old Thread Revival Month!" Why is it that the racing shows and hosted by douchebags who have no clue about racing, much less cars, who never shut the hell up?
I saw a promo the other day for one of those shows, not sure which one, and the voice-over was 'Next time on 'Scripted Fake Car Drama'! Shanna bitches at Ed about Tony's dissing of Earl!' or some crap like that. No mention of the car, the job, etc. I can't stand this unreal time crunch on any show. How likely is it that in the real world a chef, fashion designer, car restorer, or similar artisan is going to be given (or would even accept) a job of 'you gotta do this in a tenth of the normal time!!! Aaagh!!! Hurry hurry hurry!!' I understand that were it not for some conflict it'd be dull except for viewers interested in that specific field, but how many do watch just for the drama? Patrick
I don't watch the show, never have, but if they do it consistently it's called proof painting this is what separates the 10k paint job from the 15k paint job. You paint then cut with 800 then work up to 2000 and buff make any corrections you need to, then reclear and start with 1000 or 1200 and work up to 3000
Have you tried Martin Brothers in Iron Resurrection? Those guys seem to work really well together, and from what I've seen, they've got some talent there too.
Just clear...interesting. Have you done one that way? When you mention corrections, what are we talking about there? Wouldn't you risk the same chances of blemishes the second time you clear?
That guy cracks me up. He is really funny. "only a handful of guys...." LOL. He is so amusingly full of himself And OMG, is his daughter smoking hot!
Nah your just looking for wiggles, small stuff, if you do have to dig in deeper to get something out then yea you may have to blend in an area. Some guys will spray 10 coats of clear with long flash times and use the film thickness as a way to work out the little areas that will most certainly show up. I have recleared several cars, very time consuming, but I prefer reclearing vs piling on alot of material no matter the flash time given. It's also best to let a car sit for 30days before cutting and buffing
