The factory style GS "Ram Air" wasn't really Ram Air, it was theorized as "Cool Air Induction"
There is no Ram Air effect as mentioned in above posts.

    Something is wrong right there.

Do you have a timing light? If you can pull spark plugs, you can check your timing.

Hard to argue with Gary or the dyno sheet. Just shows that every motor is it's own little beast. I forgot that I did have Rhodes lifters on it. Mine sucked on the dyno and pulled like mad on the track. I do know that it is not unusual for iron heads with a 413 to run around 110mph.

It is one possibility. Checking your timing is not hard. If I showed you how to do it in person, you would probably have the same reaction as others I have shown, I should have done this sooner, it's simple. What distributor are you using? 34* should be optimal. You need to check it.

The dual plane is definitely costing you HP. The heads probably out flow it.

Im running a MSD pro billet distributor, and I ran both intakes on the dyno and while the SP1 made more power it was only 8 more horsepower, but it lost 14 foot pounds.

I knew that had been the topic of discussion in this forum so I wanted the see for myself which intake made the most sense for mostly street driven cars and after having both run same day same conditions i went with the dual plane. the loss of 14 foot pounds i did not want to give away for 8 horse. I can send you somebody the sheets that can post them here so everybody can see what it did atleast in my application.

That is really strange. Some part of your combo is off. The engine should make 550HP with an SP1 intake.

When Jim Weise built my first engine, he tested 3 cams. A TA 413, a Lunati fast ramp cam, and the roller cam. My heads are TA Stage1SE heads that flow 334/250 @ .600 lift. I am running 10.5:1 compression. Have a look at the dyno sheets for those 3 cams.

Imo the 8hp is better than the 14ftlbs we are building big blocks, we have an abundance of TQ as it is , bleeding of some in favor is a good move

That might depend on if your converter allows you to spend some time at the shift recovery rpm.
If there's more time spent there and through peak torque than hovering peak hp you'll 60 ft faster and move down the track quicker. It's the same as reducing weight.

I looked over your thread over and over again when I was building my motor which is why I bought the SP1 to begin with. I don't know what the heads flowed but there was some port work done to them. RWR chose the bullet cam because it was one they ran on one of Dave Johnson's motors that was being built pretty much the same time mine was being put together. At some point I would like to go to a roller setup, but its simply not in the budget right now.

I'm going to put the 3200 convertor in it clear the trunk out and see what it does. Ill get a timing light to see where it is and put a little more pressure in the tires and run it. If that doesn't get me 12.60's then Ill probably put electric fans on it and maybe talk my wife into letting me get the 1.65 roller rockers. Dave guaranteed me 25 more horse power with the rockers and i know he knows his stuff so ill be begging the wife to make that happen

On top of the torque loss the SP1 would not allow me to run my air cleaner, so when the net HP gain was that close the deciding factor was the air cleaner.

I tend to agree. Goes back to that whole combination thing.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

Can you post a time slip? or three?

    I'd be disappointed in a 1.9 60'
Have you gone out to a deserted type area and make some test launches to get the tire pressure dialed in?
You should have two full width black marks on the pavement. adding more or decreasing air pressure until you get there.
I have to agree the 275 is a pretty wide tire for a 7" wheel.
Might consider loosening the sway bar links on the front to get the front to come up just remember to tighten em back up for the ride home. If you trailer the car maybe remove the front bar for the track day.

definitely pick up a timing light. read and reread the power timing link. You need to be doing the timing. Very important.
I'm guessing you are running some kind of high octane fuel?
Do some searching on reading plugs.
Read up on how to tune your carb. Might need bigger or smaller pieces to get more fuel or less fuel into the engine. Plugs will tell the story.

I think if this was your first trip to the track it was very successful. No broken parts, had a great time. Sounds like a great time to me.

My first time to the track with my 55 Stude, went 13.60's. Almost 20 yrs. later have gone 11.72/112 with the same long block. 430, ported big port stage one converted heads, all stock bottom end. Hemi killer cam. 850 demon. Have run a 4-speed, an auto, different converters, 3.55 and 3.73 rear. Lots of tuning, playing with the carb, shift points, you name it. And I said when we built it I was gonna be happy if it ran 13's. Don't beat yourself up, you gotta put in the time to figure out what they like.

It was a blast, even though it didn't run the number i thought it would. I have never launched the car anywhere. I got on the convertor just before i got to the track just to see what that would feel like. Ive got a bug now that I have to keep going so every couple weeks until lit starts getting hot I will see some track days. i have not been able to post videos or pictures since i got this stupid mac, I can send the video and the time slips to one of you guys to post. I will be taking the sway bar out in two weeks when I go back. I was told that would help to transfer some energy so ill try that. I bought the 275 60 15 Mickey thompson's to go on a 10 inch weld wheel that I was going to run on the car, but the offset was wrong and it wouldn't fit. at some point in the near future Im going to buy the right rear wheels and put the drag radials on those.

And yes I am running 110 leaded fuel.

So 12.60's aren't unrealistic for this car given the power it makes now?

Absolutely not I ran 12.40's in a 4100lb GS at only 104 to 106mph 7.80s to the 1/8 , just need to get it to 60ft. But yea first time out is always disappointing till you've built a few cars and or setups

You said on the dyno it made 510 hp but was this with waterpump, alternator and PS pump?
I'm pretty sure nothing from them was driven on the dyno, because hp sales the cars and folks do alot to show the most of them..

    Waterpump 20 hp
    Saginaw PS pump 15 hp
    Alternator 5 hp
    Hi flow Exhaust 5 hp

    just my 2 cents...

I think he meant the factory ram air cleaner Alan.
