John, The fact that you checked it out and it is still for sale tells me all I need to know.

I have contacted the seller with many questions. One of the things I am worried about is the block casting numbers. I think he didn't actually get the numbers from the block himself but rather from a sheet that was given to him. I have asked for many verification items to which all answers appear correct one being the numbers on the carbuerator (7040246) which are correct for the 4-speed car and the numbers on the distributor are au489. Can anyone verify the distributor numbers?

Also, another fishy thing is that he offered it to me just now discounted $2000 to help pay for shipping but said the discounted price would be 43k. Interesting the current price is $35,100. What gives???

Does anyone have a dollar figure that this would be worth to them if it were all as stated in the add?

    Thank you
    John

What gives I think is at the very least deception. I will let others opine if it constitutes outright fraud. Assuming the block casting number is 1241735, the block was produced as much as two years after the car was built (Second week, January, 1970). I did not ask seller anything about numbers stamped on the front of the block, but his most recent reply included the text "Could not find any numbers on front of block. the id number is on front of engine from 1971 to 1975 and the 1970 is where it is supposed to be on your car. The casting number on back of engine is the number you have posted." (1241735). This can ONLY mean a replacement block has been stamped with the car's VIN.

Yes 7040246 is the correct number for a Stage 1 carburetor for both manual and automatic equipped cars. The distributor marking of au489 means nothing. Correct distributor would be stamped 1112016 with a date code of, or prior to, 9L4.

I'd be very surprised if this auction runs its course.

He mentions the number of Stage 1 4speeds built, then goes on to state that only a fraction of those were equipped with the 360 hp 455 that now puts out 425 HP, HUH? So.... Mr Seller, what OTHER stage 1 engine did the other cars have? Appears to know nothing about these cars. Ya know? If they do it on TV it's gotta be real!

I think it's his first time listing on eBay but there are a lot of discrepancies and questions about this listing.

I guess we just wait and see.

I am asking lots of questions on this to the seller, he doesn't appear to know too much about cars in general. He emailed me saying that I could have the car for $45k and give me an allowance of $2000 for shipping making the price for the car $43k. I questioned him about the fact that his auction is curently at $35,100 and the reserve has already been met and asked hi if he had an offer somewhere else for $43k to which he replied that he has an offer of $42k. I think he is in fact trying to pull the wool over peoples' eyes. He says, with some amount of possible truth, that on the last day of the auction that the price will definately go well over $40k and that I had better buy it now before then.

Talk about "Bad mojo". This guy sounds like a used car salesman that thinks he owns a gold mine.

I think that the price that it is already at is starting to push it for value even if it is a true all numbers matching car as he states.

I wish him luck and the buyer a word of extreme caution.

Even with its issues, it doesn't seem like a bad car for the money. 70 Stage 1 4 speeds don't exactly grow on trees. The market will always catch up and surpass the selling price. Believe me, in 5 years, the price paid will seem cheap. I bought mine 11 years ago for 13,500 and that was 'all the money" for it. Hndsight is 20/20

    I need a time machine.

As an aside - There's so much that should've been done with this auction. Where's the Sloan documents or a Wayne Roberts report? Pictures of the numbers of all the Stage 1 specific parts? Embedded video of the car running and driving?

I could've done a killer listing with this car.

Its been my experience that a relist never does as well as the first listing. I think the car will struggle meet the last auctions result

    It says it's all original.

Weren't the numbers the problem previously?
