I'm surprised one has discussed this yet? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261879652051?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
The interior was very wet at some point in it's life. Warped door panels, rusted speedo face screws and nasty looking kick panels. Sand blasted master cylinder and distribution valve too. This one would require a very careful inspection.
Does anyone know if the factory color was red? The dark saddle looks a little out of place, but was probably available in that color combo.
4 hours into the auction and its above 35K? without one bit of evidence to support the facts? How about a buildsheet or Wayne report?
Aren't Sloan documents available for that year? I agree, though - ANY documentation wouldn't hurt. Especially when someone might be digging deep into their pockets.
Only a fool would bid for ANYTHING on Ebay where the seller has blocked bidder ID's. That said, it may very well be worth a TON of $$$, I see it has a "taught" headliner. It's extremely difficult to teach a piece of vinyl anything. The car may very well be one of one!!!
I sent the seller a few questions. Most importantly, he lists the casting number on the block as 124735. I asked if it was not 1241735, and he verified that to be the case. 1241735 was not used until mid-model year 1972. Someone has thus restamped the VIN which seller states is 70H224172. Not 40H224172, but 70H224172. He seems to be very hesitant to verify carb and distributor numbers, but insists they are original to the car. Said he is leaving for vacation, but will have his mechanic get the numbers for me. I'm not about to hold my breath.
It could possibly be an original Stage 1 car, but certainly does not have it's original engine. He says he has a loose leaf book full of documentation going back to when it sold new. Gave me all the info from the Fisher body tag except the paint code, but elsewhere in his listing he says original color was burnished saddle. Not a big deal, but why be so cryptic with the information? I would advise caution.
As long as the Sloan and Wayne Roberts services are still available, I don't see why anyone would list a car for sale without them. That eliminates a lot of questions. And doubt.
