Nothing I can do about that Chris, short of eliminating PM's.

It's almost been 10 years, and the sheet metal parts that were sold outside the thread or "thru the back door" that your friend missed out on actually went to another one of your friends/customers, not me. Call me sometime and we can discuss this as I'm sure JW doesn't want to have to re-live that mess!

PS - I apologize from mis-spelling your name. Feel free to add it to your signature line. :TU:

How about a three strikes rule. If you get in line and don't follow through just because you changed your mind without a good reason

i put specific rules in my ads, i start them all out like this, and no one has complained to me, or a mod that i'm aware of.i give specifics ,and boy, its so much better for me

"US adress only...paypal only...if you say you want it, and dont complete the deal in 24 hrs i move on..."

If i've done business with a guy, or a looong time member asks, i will take a check or m/o...i just dont want to wait 2 weeks for mail..im selfish i guess...ive also financed people, ive waited for people to get back from vacation, and a member financed me on a high dollar part...i will do the same for most members too.

    and it works for me

( US adress, doesn't mean you cant buy from me...it means US adress, or a broker..ive sold many things to Sweden, Germany, South Africa..Denmark..etc...so i will work with members..but i aint shipping anything out of country myself, i dont need the hassles...and believe me its a hassle)

Um, the board has only been around for about 11 years and it was about 7 years ago and that sale was the one that cause the big $hit storm that made these rules in the first place. I was one of the many that were in line for some of those NOS parts. I laugh about now James and I think you know that I am not holding any bad blood over it. There was no rules about going in through the back door then so don't worry about your still golden in my eyes:beers2:

Sk not Sc and Jim I always wonder if you use to think I was being a smart a$$ when I you spell your last name Wise instead of Weise, you didn't post your last name back then so I thought for a very long time that it was Wise:Dou: My spelling is poor, I don't know the rules about where to start and end a paragraph. Some times when I am trying to be funny it comes a cross as be sarcastic etc. I drop out of school when in grade 9 and went to trade school for mechanic's so I missed a bunch of things like that. My whole life I have never real read anything other then hot rod mags, GSX'ra etc. My heart is in the right place but my heart and fingers some thimes forgets to engage the brain.

And yes you were out of the loop

Make all the for sale items just a post, no reply. Reply only made through PM or email. Nobody sees who is in line. All the deals would be made away from the board. Everything is left up to the seller. Just my thoughts

This seems to be a common response....I think this is a great idea. It gives the seller chance to complete the sale on their own terms, leaves the bs out of the hands of the board. The current rules are clearly not working, otherwise this thread never would have been started. In the "real world" money talks and the seller is responsible for completing the sale on their own terms. As far as charging a fee to sell, good luck. This will lower the number of transactions on here all together. The seller will look for other avenues to sell the item. Just my opinion-which seems to be very similar to others thoughts. Dave

I think the Board sales have worked well in the main. The relatively few transactions that have not gone well get so much bad press that we tend to overlook the overwelming number of great transactions that have taken place over the last 10 years.

Even if you took all responses to original for sales ads off the public section of this Board, a relatively few of these transactions are still not going to go smoothly. Then, members will still bring any failure of a transaction back to the public section through a public complaint. So, no matter how well intended, there is no panacea in this proposal. A 100% success rate in transactions will never be attained. But, we probably already do as well, and likely better, than most forums.

If a person post's "in line" or "interested" on a CAR for sale ad, make them place a $250 non-refundable deposit, and give them 48 hours to complete the deal.

That will get rid of the tire kickers and butt pickers from pushing the buyers line back 3 pages of replies, holding up or killing the sale process altogether.

Kinda like when you make an offer on a house, you place a deposit of "good faith" or earnest money that is non-refundable, so if your deal falls through, you don't screw the seller out of a possible sale from a "real" buyer, not a wannabe buyer:Smarty:

When I put a car up for sale, I'm ready to sell to move onto something else, or I need to sell to free-up the cash for my next purchase, therefore, I price my stuff at the bottom to eliminate the B.S. offer/counter offer time wasting. If I want $4500 for a car, I list it at $4500. I don't list it for $6800 waiting 6 months for someone to finally offer me $4500. That's dumb.
That's what I hate about the "In line"/"interested" B.S. I don't like having my sale help up by people that a.) don't have the funds to really buy, or b.) don't really have any intention of buying, they are on some ego trip trying to make people "think" they are some big shot buyer.

Go through the "cars for sale" post's. There are people who ALWAYS post "in line", and they NEVER-EVER buy a damn thing. These are the people who need to be booted, wannabe tire kickers and butt pickers. Make them pay instead of a $50 fee, make it a $50 FINE for screwing up a sale!!!!!!!!!!

I'm amazed at the folks that want PM's only.

    Here is why..

    1. You open yourself up wide to fraud. Fraud and deceit are at home in the dark (in private)

    2. You created an auction situation- there would be no point in posting a price on the board, that would be a starting price. You guys really want to compete with a few deep-pockets guys who will outbid you?

    3. It's very possible you will not hear from the seller, then you will be sending multiple PM's of "did you get my PM"..

    4. After a couple times dealing with low ball offers, folks will go elsewhere to sell.

Am I off base here?... has someone sold/purchased with this method and had a good experience?.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like the idea as it allows me and the mods to be totally out of the loop, which I am find with, but I firmly believe it would kill the classifieds.

And the volume of board posts that are complaints would be crazy. There would be cyber fist-fights breaking out all over.

It would lead to me just throwing up my hands, and deleting the section.

    Or maybe not...

I want to hear about your good experiences buying and selling things like that.

I hate ebay because you have to wait 5+ days for it to end only to get sniped at the end.

" I am seeing this a lot "money talks" and "Cash is king" I guess I am old school because I was always told "first come first served" Its a sad world we live in.

There has to be a rule in place for a "reasonable" amount of time so the first buyer inline can still get more pic's/info if needed. With out a time limit it will turn into a free for all along with opening the door to a perfect breeding ground for a auction etc. You might as well move your stuff to e-bay or yellow bullet. I have no interest in this type of selling or buying.

That idea has merit for car sales...

How would you handle the payment, keeping in mind we still have quite a subset of folks that will not do paypal. Would you require those folks to send certified funds overnight?

Time frame and payment will come in conflict..

What it really will be is a million folks interested... no one in line to buy..

Most of that can be by-passed if enough pictures are shown in the ad.

It does free up the "in line" deal.. that's where the merit is for me in the idea.

Downside... send seller $250, and he disappears..

Tony, please learn how to use the quote and reply function on message boards. I don't appreciate seeing my comments mixed with others, then attributed to me.

I would just add a disclaimer to the for sale adds so that before anyone can post a new thread or reply to a thread they have to read the disclaimer that lists the rules and the people have to accept these rules before they can post. In the end there are going to be some people that are not being honest, however I feel this is a very safe and productive place to buy and sell parts/cars compared to other venues...

Maybe another thing to add to the for sale section is a disclaimer and suggestion for people to protect themselves and ensure safe deals....

I have completed hundreds of deals over the years and never once had an issue, the system is good and honest... If people break the rules then ban then from the for sale section.

The Pontiac board which is bigger than this..they want you to stay off the board, do it all with PMs, 99% it works

The Yenko site only the seller can post on his for sale ad, unless youre a contributor, and it works

The Olds board is un moderated unless theres a big big issue..it works

Put a trader rating next to the guys name...if people use the feed back (me included) and can look at the ad, see the feedback rating, and see a problem with the sales the seller is doing..all the members have a choice...

I guarantee a bunch of negs, thats easy to see...will get some attention

Im just spit ballin' not flip flopping around, i see what works at other places..and just bringing them to attention

the moderators job is to make sure the listing are correct, with a price, a location, and to stop bickering in the ad...he doesnt baby sit issues, if someones out of line they delete his respnses. ....they suspend you, they dont fool around, ya get 2 weeks a month and then a trial basis, and you can be banned and they do it ALL the time..

i think someone said it consenquences for bad behavior

i cant think of one bad deal for me or the buyer on another board....
