I've been watching a lot of Mecum & Barrett-Jackson auctions on t.v. lately and really tired of seeing the same old cars. While Camaros, Mustangs, Chevelles, 55-57 Chevys, Corvettes, G.T.O.'s, and Cudas are all nice cars, everyone and their brother seems to have one. So here's my list of muscle cars that never got the attention they deserved: 1.) 64-69 Buick Skylark/GS/Special (enough said, the Wildcat & Riviera are up there too, but I know a lot of you would put it on your list) 2.) 67-70 396 or 427 Biscayne & Bel Air. I've got a '66, and while there aren't a lot out there, they're still pretty popular. But the 67-70, you just don't see them. If you can find a 69-70 you've got a really rare car. 3.) 66-69 big block Pontiac Catalina or Strato Chief 2-dr post. 4.) 1970 1/2 Ford Falcon with the 429 5.) (Tie) 1969-1970 Ford Galaxie or Mercury Marauder with the 429 What are your picks?
1962 Chrysler 300H with 405 hp 413 1963 Ford Galaxie Fastback with 427 4 sp. 1964-66 Buick Riviera with dual-quad 425 1957 Olds with J-2 package 1964 Paxton-supercharged Studebaker Lark. (You wanted underrated!)
The most underrated has got to be the R2 Studebaker. I think there are two R2s in the top five of best pure stocks car times.
I'm not sure I can pick 5 but I'd like to say the Turbo Regal is underrated muscle as is the Buick GS and Boat-tail Rivs. Do you guys think the Ford Maverick qualifies? AMC Javelin?
69 was the last year for thw SS in fullsize, or hotrod Biscayne...I've never seen a 70, 454 Biscayne, 4 speed . But maybe they made them.
Hudson Hornet - early 50's. 'Course it helped if it was prep'd by Smokey Yunick...lol 308 cu in (5 L) six-cylinder 210 hp(tuned) /3500Lbs in 1951-54 - Bill
1987 GNX (Ill be the first) 1968 AMX 1968 OLDS 442 1969 ELIMINATOR 1967 GTX Maybe not in that order, but they need to be on there somewhere.
57 ford tbird with supercharger.... talledega torino 405hp 406 ford ford thunderbolts all nailhead powered buicks with proper super low gears [4.11 or lower and switch pitch transmissions ]for 1/4 mile performance...way underated , even by some Buick enthusiasts....
I think the Maverick was only a poser. If memory serves, its 302 only came from the factory with a two-barrel.
one's ill throw out that i havent seen mentioned: the cyclones/typhoons (alot of people dont even know what they are) turbo TAs torinos (from what Ive seen they are the least known muscle cars lol) the SVO mustangs and ofcourse our beloved Buicks
1. 57' to 58' Plymouth Fury (57' 318 & 58' Golden Commando 350) 2. 74' Gran Sport 3. 71' to 73' Mustang(especially 71' 429SCJ & Boss 351) 4. New model Merc. Marauders 5. Early 90's Chevy Caprice Classic(box car) with police package- 350" (detuned Vette engine)
Dodge Demon. Don't know if they're necessarily under appreciated, or just so freaking rare you never see them. Dodge Darts and Plymouth Dusters have always had a special place in my heart though.
the cyclones/typhoons (alot of people dont even know what they are) LOL, was that GMC's SYCLONE ou: or the Mercury Cyclone?
Scratch that... I looked up the Grabber package on the Maverick and all it was was a graphics and trim package. Still a "poser". I have seen a few fast Mavericks but it takes a lot to get them there.
