Sorry to hear that Yards.....I'm thinking that the metal in the oil may have benn messing with the lifters internally and not letting it rev properly? They are pretty senstive to debris......
Just wait to see how much better it's going to run all freshened up!!! Much better than dropping 5 quarts on the track! Then towing and oil everywhere!! Can you say 12.50's??:beer
Thanks y'all. I spoke with the shop and hope to drop off the block tomorrow. He'll cut the crank another .010 if polishing makes the clearances too loose. Thorough cleaning. Tap and plug the block oil passage. Rod and main bearings, rings, hone, align hone and ROPE seal. We'll be good to go. I'm not using the Scott Brown cam. The specs were too tame for me and I just didn't get the impression that I'd get the performance I want. I'm going with a TA 413 cam. I'll keep the Scott Brown cam as a backup. And I still think the cam was the problem. It looked fine when we pulled it... no flat lobes or anything. We shall see.
The cam I pulled out was 230/240@.050 The 413 is 235/245@.050. Very similar. The cam I pulled out had .515/.525 lift. The 413 has .516/.516. The one I pulled was on a 116 LC, the 413 is on a 113. Jim Weise and Mike T agree to install it 6* advanced. Will do. My brakes will be fine, according to Mike... unless someone who uses it with power brakes can tell me otherwise???
Its a touch too much in my 430, but the brakes are fine. might be a different story with your extra weight, but I doubt it.
I thought about the lifters causing the "flat spot" from the lifters either not pumping up at a certain rpm, or a bleeding off at a certain rpm. I had the dreaded "flat spot" and it was my old rhodes lifters bleeding off too much and not pumping up like they're supposed to.
I told Mike from TA that I want it to idle like a coffee can full of rocks. NOTHING says HELLOOOO!!!!! like an idle that sounds like the car has a thousand loose bolts in the oil pan!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA I only wish I could fit long tube headers in there for that "ting ting" sound.
I've got that going in spades and I love the sound, but the problem is that once the tough guy pulls up next to you at the light and hears it, he suddenly starts fiddling with the radio or cell phone or something, while pretending he doesn't notice the light change. Kinda takes the fun out of it; no more "sleeper" status. Devon
I have only a TA C 113 and it sound amazing st 750 rmp's! It's not even a big cam so I can't wait to hear yours.
Yardley, What are the specs for the Scott Brown camshaft ? Also wondering why the rope seal & not a 2 pc. ? ick
Jeff the new neoprene seals go right in. No adjusting required like the old ones. I just changed from old to new from Greg Gessler and it does NOT leak.
Pitted? No. I shared your now feeling on the neoprene but sure enough, the new seal slipped right in. I was going to go with rope but didn't.
Joe65SkylarkGS , When you say "old type" When was this part updated by T/A ? Mine is gray in color & seemed to fit ok , I installed the parting lines offset @ the cap & block index . building these Buicks is nerve racking , but the torque more than evens things up in the end. ick
