You know Larry, thats a great point. And I thought this as well. It is real loose to say the least. I think a new converter is in my future. I have picked your brain on this topic before right? I knew I needed to address my converter.

What is the formuls your using?

And what is the hp formula? Weight and time or whatever it is. Thanks.

    RPM = 336/tire height X rear gear X MPH

For you that is 336/26 X 3.55 X 109 = 5000.58 That is with no slip. You are slipping 1000 RPM, and that is 20% which is way too high.

Thanks Larry. So I guess i'm saving for a new converter.

Recomendations? I'm not going to go with the SP just yet though.

If not for my SP, I'd go right to Coan and be done with it.

Yea, the one in there now is a TCI 3500.

Probably more like 4500 now though!!!!

You have a link to the Coan's?

Would a Jim Wise converter be as efficient as a Coan but less money?
Does Coans latest 9.5 have proprietary secrets hidden inside that no one else can match?
    anyone?

A switch pitch is great for street, but I'm becoming convinced that a GOOD fixed converter is worth 3 tenths if your willing to fix the resulting traction issues.

    I love 65's. Good luck

Jim's converter guy is good. I know a few guys that have the 9.5" and they love it. My 12" SP is great. It wouldn't hurt to give Jim a call and see what he suggests.

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

I'm partial to Pro Torque converters, Joe is a great guy to deal with and can spec out a perfect converter for your car. They are right on LI as well. Not cheap though.

That's what's great about this board. I learn a lot just by looking through the posts.

Not for nuttin the car ran well all day with the exception of spitting off the belts. Get that pulley worked out bro easy 1 hour fix. I too think your converter is slipping. Your engine makes some sweet power. If you do go wide band O2 $$$ you will be able to tune the carb perfectly I would say you can be in the 11.9- 11.7 all day any day. I droped .8 (15.2> 14.4) when I changed from the TH400 (1800 stall) to the SP400 (1800/3500) stall. Break out the Benji's bro thats all it takes to go fast.:TU:

Thanks Ant. I think it ran good for the first time out. But I needed Larry there to take video!!!! So my buddy eric who was there with us, that tall guy, went to a swap meet in long island on sunday and grabbed one for 10 bucks!!

So I'm going to fix that and then start a converter fund!:TU:

It was a great day and look forward to meeting up again!!:TU:

Nice runs Joe! What gear do you have in that beast? I know alot of people are happy with the 9 and 1/2 convertor JW has available.

Yea I wish I would've gone with 323 or 308's but i'm probably going to go with a taller slick when I but a new set. But i'll kill these first!:Brow:

I have to look into the JW Converters. How do I get in touch with him?:TU:

Have you got any kind of educated guess at HP and torque from this engine?
If I ever find a 64 -65 project car that doesn't bust the bank and isn't a rusted POS I want to build a car to do just about what you are getting.
It would be nice to have reference numbers when thinking about a build.
I saw the gearing, am following the transmission info, looked at the slick size.
Sounds like a good track car that can be a fun good looking street car too.
I would be almost willing to sell the 67 to fund a 65. Almost.
Probably not going to happen though. Need to keep the one at least until the other is done.
You were posting steady improvements on your times so it looks like you and the car were getting comfortable on the track together.
Keep us posted with any updates on future trips.
