Got to put one up for my best friend 1966 Wildcat GS dual quad 4 speed. Topcat Wild Bill Burton. The man has helped so many here, been to every GS Nats since the third or fourth one i think, saw and ad in the back of a car mag and headed down to BG to check it out. Get to know him before the aliens take him away, it may just be sooner than you think. Thanks man, you have made the trip a Wild one.
Didn't Bill Wills draw up the original "Gus" logo? He should definitely be in there somewhere. EDIT: That would be Bill Amos. Thanks to John C. for correcting my mistake!
All of the above should make a GS hall of fame, The one that Hooked me backin' 83' was Hugh Richardsons yellow GSX, WOW!!!!!! it was the best of the best back then, a milestone car for sure!! How about the "Alcohol Gang" Really tried to get a Buick running on alternate fuel. I think the crew drank more than the car. Dave Former member of the Alcohol Gang.
My first year at the Nationals we would all run to the fence when Big Doug Hecker and his 65 was gettin ready to rip off a low 9....we did'nt even know him at the time......... just that he was one crazy bastard from Jersey with one of the fastest Buicks around. Years later I can call him a good friend. Roberta....wow props to you for mentioning my name with the BIG DOGS!!!!!
There are a lot of them that could and should be listed! But I really agree with Dan in an earlier post about George Mueller’s '69. I'm an old timer when it comes to the Nat’s, as this will be my 24th consecutive year without fail. Believe me, I've seen a lot "come and go" with this club. The early days were really something! No matter how we try they can never be duplicated! Just won’t happen! George’s car was not the fastest car there, but it broke many paradigms about our Buicks. It was one of, if not the first “back halved” streetcars to cruise the Holidome. His car was running on alcohol with an “EVM” (pre-Rons Racing) flying toilet, which I had set up for him since I ran the shop that built them. It had very short 3-inch diameter straight thru mufflers and side outlet exhaust. It was loud and obnoxious!! I still remember everyone’s eyes tearing up from the alcohol as we cruised the parking lots! It was Great! Then we would cruise the same parking lots later in the evening and set off all of the GN alarms with his loud exhaust! It was hilarious! Between the loud exhaust and 10-15 alarms going off simultaneously, it’s a sound I’ll never forget!! His car would leave the line with both wheels way in the air, then kind of fall flat around half-track. After a while his car was noted for that. WAY too loose of a converter, but it was FUN to watch. I think it ran low 11’s at best. Like I said not necessarily the fastest, but one of the most “all around” memorable for us “old timers”. LOL Steve
that brings back memories steve, goerge's exhaust blowing gravel on some guys pizza!!!! priceless!!:beers2:
John Csordas rowing the gears in the White car .... that man could Power Shift !!! That, and the TA Wagon - being a 68/69 lover AND a Wagon fan forever, I cant even tell you how big the smile was after I heard the loud speaker announce "Tom ZuZuSki and the TA Wagon" ... and then watch him launch that thing to the sky
Another two people you don't know about are our very own Jim Weise and Mike Bucy !!! Big time bracket racers here in Minnesota !!!!
Anyone remember that guy name Scott that raced the black regal BBB ?? I think it was Poston sponsored. I always loved that car.
