Having an issue setting up the clutch linkage on my 455. I have headers and it would appear that they are interfering with the zbar.. In the pics the z bar is stopped against the header and even so the clutch linkage is too long to fit between the z bar and the fork where it belongs:Dou:. So im thinking either the headers are in the way or i have the wrong linkage or who knows what else.. ANY ideas are appreciated:TU:

From where did you source the z bar?

Jim is on the right track. That isnt a factory 455 Z bar. I would source the right Z bar first and see of the issue resolves itself.

That looks like the one i bought from The Parts Place. I think it is for a small block. I do not have a source for big block pieces. It will work you have to modify it, you will need to completely remove the angle that is hitting, grind the tube smooth, then weld on a piece of flat bar, i made one then punced a hole in it so i could weld all the way around, it was around 3/16 thick. then i used a bolt that i ground to a point, along with a sprical link, in the pitcher i dont have a lock nut on it yet. I also installed a grease fittting on the tube. The last pitcher is what it looked like when i installed the same Z bar. This was a auto to manual convertion. It has been working great, no proplems.

For crying out loud I hope I don't have to do all that to make my small block z bar from the parts place inc. fit on my small block 350 buick application! But then again that is light years away from now as I am still striking out on the pilot bushing and will machine the one I have (I've already been working with Nathan at Auto Gear but so far he has swung and missed).

Is that bellhousing correct? I saw the driver's side starter bump out, but I'm not familiar with 455's maybe the starter is on the driver's side.

Some bell housings, as I recall, have the starter humps bilaterally.

I think all BOP bell houseing have both humps, Olds and Pontiac starters are on the drivers side.

Pretty sure there is a one hump for an Olds.

wow. Its funny thats what i was going to do but didnt expect to get that answer. Thank you... Yes it is a parts place z bar. Nice work btw. Would you mind telling me where you got the link? And im assuming you moved the flat bar over to avoid header interference?...
