    Bigpig455 Fastest of the slow....

So this is all for Ted Nagel - this is the full results of my trip to Lebanon Valley last week. It's 60ft, 330, 660 1/8 MPH, 1000, 1/4 mile ET and MPH. In here are the best 60 and 330 ft's the car has ever run, and also the best 1000ft and 1/4 mile ET. But I've done better MPH numbers, and I was working on that when I ran out of time. The only changes I made this year is I went from 73 primary jets to 72's, and then richer on the secondaries than I'd ever gone (I was up to a CE .413 rod when I quit, and all the numbers dont show it it felt stronger) and the swap from 3.23 gears to 3.42's. Yeah, the 60 fts were good but it might have been more because I messed with the seconday air valve transition - the tension spring had been binding on the shaft post and they would spring wide open after a little delay, but around the middle of the 60. Anyways, the idea is to quit pushing my luck on the numbers matching block and not run it again until the new motor is ready, but I'm really not that bright.....

And finally cause me and Ted were talking Corvairs on a PM - some pictures of my little Corvair...It was a 66 Monza dressed as a 65 Corsa - a 4 speed 140 HP car with 3.55's. It had all the right stuff, but it really was a slow, oil leaking, pig....I resealed that engine twice, and did every Corvair trick in the book but it would only respond in the slightest way to mods...But man I could look at it for hours, it was gorgeous from every angle. I sold it to a guy who sold it to another guy who had it trucked sight unseen and dropped in the driveway of his beachfront house on Long Beach Island, NJ....two days before Hurricane Sandy. He lived up in Jersey City and wasn't going down to see it for another week or so...We never heard from the guy again and we all know what happened to the LBI shoreline, so I assumed it got flooded...forgive me for the non Nailhead content.

Rhett, my brother-in-law had one of those 4-carb Monzas. He loved it but sold it because he thought that he would kill himself in it. He bought a new Datsun B210 and sadly, killed himself in that.

I have seen a guy at BG with a 455 in a Corvair. It will move out.

Jim - Throwing a Toronado transaxle and 455 in those was a pretty common thing, I've always wanted to drive one...there's a guy about two towns over that has one. The other conversion that was pretty cool was a mid-ship V8 install where the rear seat was. There were a couple companies that made conversion kits, right off the shelf.

John - Sorry about your brother in law. He was right about that though, they can be tricky at the limit - like a 911 but with better transition. I never had the balls to find out where that break point was, but I pushed it quite a few times. It was a great handling car, and would redline like crazy. Top speed was heat limited only, I had about 60 seconds of full throttle before it would over heat at about 110 or so (speedo was a little iffy).

    I miss it, I don't miss it.....
