I changed the original snorkel one, on my 65 401" Electra, for an K&N "open top" filter, and it allows the car to breathe much better.. Felt it right away.. Cant say for sure if its better than the white cheap ones, but really think it is..

I stopped using the K&N's -- I'm no longer a fan of the oil wicked filters -- too easy to over oil and then you're sucking that stuff through your carb/efi. I'd opt for a DRY cotton gauze type like Spectre ( or equivalent ) over them any day -- just my opinion.

I like K&N filters. They breathe good and they are reusable. I get the oil spray and for it and lightly spray the whole filter after cleaning it. They last a long time to!

I would go with an R2 C air filter. They are more expensive, but it will last the life of your car.We have dynoed most air filters out there, and this one is the best in our findings. We run them on all of our dirt cars as well.We blow them out every week, and put it back on.Engines look like new after every season, and one engine hasn't been apart in 3 seasons. We didnt have luck with K and N on the dyno, or keeping dirt out .Plus using the oil on it was a pain.

The WORST thing you can do to an oiled-gauze filter is to clean it before it needs to be cleaned.

If you don't have an eighth-inch of crud built-up on the outside, or the restriction gauge isn't showing restriction...leave it the hell alone.

The K&N on my motorcycle went nearly 20 years without ever getting dirty enough to be cleaned. The plastic top and bottom got hard before the gauze got dirty. K&N replaced it under warranty.

    I've never cleaned a K&N filter.
