I bought one of the new GM mini starters from one of the board members and I was wondering if I need to hook up the yellow wire to the starter? I am running a msd box and the factory mag dist if that matters.

Nope. The yellow wire is the resistor wire bypass for points. Supplies 12 volts to the coil while cranking only. The MSD box gets its voltage directly from the battery. Your Points + coil wire only turns the box on.
