Hi Guys... I'm venturing to Branson, MO in August for a family vacation and am looking for yards in and around Branson. I'm not big into shows and would rather spend time yarding, so any info would be a great help. I'm primarily looking for trim parts for my convert....
Say Todd-I don't know of any, but watchit-Ozark country can swaller up a Mn boy-never to be seen agin-
how far from Branson would you venture into the "SCARY" Ozarks? i found a place a few months ago, 20 acres full of old cars in no order, in trees, trees growing through them. i was only there for about 1 hour before it got dark, there was alot of stuff i didn't get to see i'm sure. it would probably not be a good idea to go there in August (snakes, wasps ticks, etc.) it's probably about a 2 hr drive from Branson. i will be back in the fall.
TTT I'm heading out on the 13th for a week. I'd like to scout around a day or two. I'll go to Springfield or equal distance in any direction. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.
check out el-chevelle.com he has a salvage yard near Springfield, i think it's all A-body GM also there is a place near Sarcoxie, Mo. between Springfield and Joplin 417 358 4039 Michael Sims there is supposed to be an old salvage yard just outside of Branson but i don't know the name or location. you could probably stop at any garage in or around branson and they could tell you were any yards are.
I'm only about 55 miles NE of Branson. Not familiar with any yards close to that area. Do most of my yardin at John's in Cabool, Mo. About a 2 hr drive. Stuff is scattered all over, but he knows where almost every car is and whats left. Plenty Buicks and originalT3's. :3gears: Have fun while you are here. I will be in Branson Aug 25 thru 28 for the Crisin Branson Lights car show. :TU:
I'll second Marty's post. We stopped at John's in Cabool a month ago on the way back from the Riviera Nationals. Neat place. Big, but older cars have been there for a while so some are picked over. John is very reasonable on prices and can direct you very well to what you might be looking for. Make sure to wear long heavy pants, you won't believe the thorns on those blackberry bushes and lots of ticks so bring spray. And wear good shoes. lot of up and down walking...climbing...clamoring...cars are all over the place. Also, you might want to look into a place a few miles east of there in Mountain View. We asked about it at John's and he said lots of neat stuff there, but sounds like the guy doesn't want to sell much but it might be interesting to look around. Todd, it's a good drive east but it might be worth it to head out on the way back to Minnesota. If you don't mind a leisurely drive you can take Hwy 63 North all the way back to Minny or cut back over to I-35 in Iowa like we did. Kris Syrdal
Well, I'm back from Branson...and I can honestly say I don't ever need to back there. I was not impressed with the area and it was hotter than he&%. (heat indexes into the 100's) While the Ozark countryside is beautiful, I just can't handle the the redneck influences! (sorry to anyone who lives in the area....that's just what I encountered during my week there). I found a yard about 10 miles north of Branson looking for parts. When I asked about 70's Buicks, they laughed and said "anything from the 70's, espeically Buicks, have all been derbied and if there's anything within 100 miles of here, we've already got it for derbies" ! I about hauled off and :spank: the guy. I also went to look at a 91 Eldorado but noone would assist me. Not good for business as far as I'm concerned. It's good to be back in decent weather, although I have a desk that's buried ! Looking forward to the Sept 10th gathering in Lakeville!
Redneck isnt always a bad thing. It definitely can make life interesting sometimes. A quote from a buddy of mine " Hey boys seen this in a cartoon once, been wantin to try it "
Todd, I guess that you didn't get to go by John's yard as suggested. You would have had an entirely different story to tell. Not all of us are rednecks. Don't let one bad experience scar you for life. :Smarty: I welcome you back in my neighborhood anytime!!
unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to venture that direction. I tried to get the return route to go through St. Louis, but got voted down o No: I guess I'll just have to make a special trip there later.
