I know I can't be the only one this has happened to so somebody give me your best tip for getting a timing cover off a 455. I broke one of the long bolts(OF COARSE) while taking apart my 455 today. As you all know, metal bolt-alum. housing= seized cover. I have set the motor on end and soaked it with PB blaster, tapped on it, heated it slightly, soaked it some more, cussed it a bunch, soaked it some more tapped on it again, heated it again, cussed it again on & on. Set down and drank a beer or three, repeated above, the cover is still on there. Yes , all the bolts are out and I got a pry bar under some spots all around it but it is still on there. Any sure fire way to get it unstuck, short of breaking it ?

If you can pry the bottom far enough to clear the two dowels, you can turn the whole unit to remove it.

wack it with a rubber hammer (dead blow hammer), a good spot is the water pump if you are going to replace it eney way, just tapping with a metal hammer wont do much, also you might have to use a putty knife, and work it all around the cover, if it is glued on that tight.

and get a new set of timing cover bolts from TA performance, i was glad i did!!

A couple of things you might try. Wash all the penetrant out with some brake cleaner and with the block on end drip a little muratic acid in and let it soak a little. If that doesn't work, you may have to make an extended length hole saw that will just clear a 5/16" bolt and actually cut the aluminum away from the bolt. Seems Lincoln had this type of problem on cylinder heads back in the 30's or 40's and that's what many did to get the heads off. Jay
