as far as Ive learned, xpipes are always better than conventional dual exhaust, except in price. they equal out exhaust pulses and such. if you can afford it, id say go xpipe. im happy with mine.

An X pipe has two pluses more efficient exhaust flow and lower noise level.
If you don't mind building an expansion chamber there is always that option.
My dad an I built one for my car to try it on the old crappy 3".It made those way too loud mufflers alot more bearable and supposed to increase flow.I have never seen a test between an X pipe and ex chamber to see which one flows more.

H pipes and crossovers as far as Ive heard help like xpipes, but dont help it flow as quickly, creates pockets and such because of the sharp angles, which slow your flow, xpipes arent as bad so Ive been told. The xpipes are the ultimate way to go, Hpipe/xover = penultimate (which means 2nd best, there's your vocab for the day)

I got an X-pipe welded into the exhaust for my 06 GTO for only 130...not too expensive for the benefit it gives.
Now that I've got the Riv running, a new exhaust will be in order shortly.

    Hello,

I recently had a new dual exhaust installed in my 73 Centurion. I ordered 2.5" pipe, x-pipe and two stainless steel mufflers. They put in everything except the x-pipe. I picked it up on a Friday night and drove it without the x for a weekend. On Monday they put in the X and the difference in sound was dramatic.

Without the X the exhaust was more syncopated and broken similar to a Harley Davidson. The car has a mild cam and it sounded like it without the X. After the X was installed the exhaust sound is much smoother and the syncopation is gone. All of this is at idle. Above idle the note was louder and raspier without the X. The system has a resonance a bit above idle. With the X the RPM span of resonance is smaller. Without the X there was a second resonance at 35-40 mph that disappeared with the X.

From a purely acoustic perspective the X makes the engine sound smoother, more refined which I find fitting for a Buick.
