I now have a cross over pipe {balance tube} on my 2.5 flowmaster exhaust system. would I benefit with a X system instead of the balance tube? in 1963 I bought new Galaxie 500/405hp 406 tri power motor. this exhaust system had a balance tube. 63 car was Rangoon Red/red interior 4gear car with 4:11 gears in the rear. lost the car to#1x and later destroyed the car spite me. enough rambling, please answer about x tube.Ken

Are you racing the car looking for the lowest ET? Then it may be worth something. If only street driven you will never tell the difference nor would it be a big enough difference to be worth it. I usually ran the "H" pipe but lately I added an x-pipe when I went with bigger pipes but as far as I'm concerned it is a negligible difference and I DO race the car fairly regularly.

Years ago I saw a comparison between H and X pipes on Fox body Mustangs. Besides the sound difference, the X gained 1-2hp at peak hp and the H gained 1-2tq at peak tq. They both gained around 10hp/tq over duals with no crossover at all. I can't recall if the car had headers or stock shorty manifolds.

I much prefer the sound of the H

the x sounds awesome if you have 180* headers and a tight LSA, big duration cam.
