I hope you have better luck than I did... those pins are soo tiny, there's just not a whole lot to glue on, gnome say'n? My attempt at JB weld looked great but once the boot was installed and the back'n forth, side to side constant movement of the shifter, the pins eventually broke off one by one... THAT, was my motivation to look into a permanant resolution... started designing over a year ago... getting close now. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
After deep concentration :Smarty::kodak:I believe I have a solution to zee pegless consolette. Will share my brilliance with u after my R&D session is completed
I ground down the heads of three machine screws so they matched the contour of the consolette and them JB welded them in place using the chrome trim ring as a locating fixture. Once the JB weld dried, I removed the trim ring and reinforced it with some more JB covering the head of the machine screw. I didn't use the trim rings, I just attached the boot to the screws and installed washers and nuts. I used a little clear silicone to prevent the nuts from backing off as they really aren't tight. its been that way for over 10 years. The trim rings are hanging on a nail in my basement for posterity
And frankly, even if I did put the trim rings on, the repro boot covers what little of the trim is visible. Unless your a complete Buick nerd, no one will ever know the trim rings aren't installed
I was thinking that only a complete Buick nerd would "hang them on the wall in the basement for posterity". As a complete Buick (and all-around) nerd, I will know when I look down at my console....that is all the reason I need to install them!! You do have me thinking though Jason.:gp:
Jason, those were my exact thoughts for mounting the screws but I was thinking of using the chrome ring as well. With adding the two rings maybe it will be too much weight but one has to try to know if it will work or not.
