:bglasses: I dont know which of you guys said---if you are having problems CHANGE YOUR carb!!!!!! I OWE you some BEERS.Just got my rebuilt CORRECT 72 QJ from CARBDOCTOR ON Ebay---put it on and I own an entirely DIFFERENT car---NOW I can FEEL those secondaries OPEN about 25 in first WOW what a difference--. My wife won this for me on EBAY before Christmas $293 delivered. This guy has 2200+ POSITIVES and I can see why.Hate to put the car away but got 3 days of rain here coming to SOCAL Best to all Pete --By the way if you have a 750CFM on your 71/72 455 get the correct 800!!! Pic of his work
I'm happy you've had a great experience with the carbdoctor. I too was looking at buying a restored Q-jet from him on eBay, but backed out as I've notice some the "restored" plating and coatings on some of the parts don't match the factory supplied stuff. Then he starting "restamping" the numbers on some of the carbs..... ou: BUT, at least he's open and honest about the restamping. What gets me upset is that some of the more "common" Q-Jets are IMHO just as valuable to some of us "common" guys and shouldn't be restamped to a "Hi-Po" Q-jet number to make an extra buck.... :blast: But that aside, the price that you wife and son got off of eBay seems to be a very competitive price, and best of all, it kicks-@$$ on your vehicle.... :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: LONG LIVE THE Q-JET!
I wasn't aware he was posibly restamping numbers--that isn't good.I was more interested in his web sight and his rebuild capaabilities.Again I just put my carb on but the results speak for themselves---I also know that some ORIGINALS that people are selling are over $500 and then have to be rebuilt on top of that. One guy quoted me a 3 year wait to rebuild a correct carb for my 72 and cost was going to be over $600---I can't wait three years--I'm 57---I'm happy with my restamp--if that is what I have! Pete
57 years YOUNG!!!!!! If it's not a Buick Stage-1 carb, then it's probably not a restamp. There is no reason to restamp the "common" Buick carbs at this point. There are still enough of them out there for rebuilding purposes.
Check out the following link on eBay by the carbdoctor; look at the current price..... "This is not an original Ram Air carb but it is an original 69 vintage quadrajet thats is converted for Ram Air and numbered 7029273 XB 0919." http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/69-1...ryZ33550QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Like I said, at least the guy is honest about the restamping..... I would place a restamped Q-jet on my Buick, but I would document that for the next owner. The problem is what happens if it's resold again. The paper trail might get lost....
You are right James---when I saw my fisrt one in the late 60s I thought they were great- NOTHING has changed IMHO---I dropped down into first and stomped it and tires didnt stop squealing till it upshifted     Love it Pete
Tsk, tsk, tsk, squealing tires at your age. :eek2: I LOVE it.  I'm not all that far from that number too, nothing like stomping the go pedal, and lighting them up. :TU: I gotta wait a few months to do it again though
You guys are making me eager to get my 350 back together. I've got a 800 cfm, Stage ! Card from the the Doc that ran like a Bat out of He!! Now I' putting in a TA 212 Cam, 1.60:1 Roller Rockers, 2500 Converter and 3.55 posi. Hopefully I can terrorize a few of those 455s with this new combo. Beware!!!! :spank: :spank: :spank:
What is the difference between a Stage 1 carb and a 455 carb anyway other than the numbers. I don't think much if anything other than the jets and metering rods which are easily switched. Now a days we set up our carbs based on past knowledge. Am I correct in my assesment ? o No:
From my understanding, you answered your own question. (I do it all of the time) The jets and metering rods are different. The jets are pretty easy to switch out, but! the the metering rods aren't so easy to come across. Switching out the original 750 cfm on my 350ci for the stage1 800cfm woke up the beast!
Though I've never verified this.... My friend swears that the internal air bleed sizes, the secondary cam profile (a pain to change out), and the secondary hanger were different too. He swears a lot though, so this might not be accurate information....
Hey you outbid me ou: Im glad you are enjoying your new carb. I purchased a 71 Buick Qjet from another seller for 132 dollars and I just installed it in my 65 lark. My new carb runs great.
No my WIFE outbid you :spank: --sorry---I really did NEED the number match as my engine/tranny are all numbered to my car :bglasses: It does work great,I thought I was gonna need a complete overhaul of my engine the way it was running :ball: but now even with my Turbo tranny its :3gears: well 2 at least!! Now I have to find a posi unit and a 3:42 gearset  WHY? Because I can  HAPPY NEW YEAR---Pete in SOCAL
It cool :beer Now I need a posi rearend. When my secondaries kick in, my one wheeled wonder goes up in smoke  Im just finishing up my project and i couldnt be happier
I can attest to the same thing. I replaced a 72 350 carb with a 73 455 carb which I rebuilt first and put it on my 71 455 in the Lark. I showed my relatives this last week how from 20 mph, I can make the back tires go up in smoke. It couldn't do this with the 350 carb. I'm 53 and burning rubber never gets old!
