I have a 72 skylark custom which i have been doing all the body work myself. I have done quarter panels, fender patches, new truck, ect. I have spend probably $1000 on panels, $2500 for the car, but here is the real kicker... The body shop i get a discount at wants 6500 (all canadian funds) to finish every thing off. They are going to prime/paint the inside of the doors, trunk, hood. They will take out the windshield to get the rust out of there and clean it up as well as the rear windows. The biggest thing they have to do is clean up the rust pitting in the roof due to the previously used vinyl top. Is this going to be worth it? I am also restoring the interior with new carpet, seat covers, door panels, and arm rests. What would you guess this car would be worth after all of this work? This is a really tough decision!

    Thanks,

If you have done all that work - it seems you have the skills to do the rest! An auto glass shop can pull and re-install the windshield and back glass for little cost. If you have a shop you could do the paint yourself as well. A good paint job can range from $2000 to $8000 US - show quality paint can go beyond $10000 US. Check on the board here to see what other cars are selling for to determine your cars "value". Good luck! :TU:

Hey, if it's the car you want and you will enjoy driving it, the selling value of the car doesn't really matter, does it?

If you buy a new car, you sure pay way more than what you could sell it for.

Our fenders and hood are at the paint shop on our 72 and the car will go to interior shop this week to finish the interior. Paint is not cheap, but we want a good job that will last.

I'm hiding all of the receipts so I don't know how much I have spent and the spending will never end. But I can't wait to cruise with my son in the car and that's worth whatever we spent!!! We probably won't ever sell the car anyway.
