1955 Buick Super will not start. Pedal start not working as of yet, using push button start that was in place before it was taken apart. Looked at wiring job and it is bad, however it did work before... It sounds as if the engine is dragging to start. My thought the engine is back to new status and the starter is too weak to turn, or the wiring may be a bigger issue that I thought. Any ideas

If the engine was rebuilt it may be a little tight. Make sure you have a good battery and check the battery cables at both ends to be sure they are clean (no paint) and tight. It would probably be a good idea to have the starter rebuilt anyway.

You're best off starting with the advice given above.

Besides possibly being too tight and having a slow half-gummed up starter, look and see if your primary timing is set correctly. If the engine was assembled with the cam gear being just one tooth out, it will be enough to make a good starter drag. Check for spark, and then recheck your starter wiring.

If the starter is "good", then check out the cables going to and from it. Sometimes a bad positive cable is enough to make a starter drag.
