I am leaning heavily toward wiseco pistons for my 455. The 4.5 bore pistons with 22cc dish should give me around 10.6 static compression. They are difficult to find reviews on. Has anyone used these and what do you think of the quality?

Bobb Makely used them on his wife's car. We are going to use them in my blower motor setup.

I'm interested to see what ppl say about these as well as I was looking at a pro tru set for my next 464 build. I see them priced in the low 400 for pistons, pins, locks, and a set of je rings.

If they can live in a blower motor they should be fine for my 13:1 motor

4.5 bore not going in a stock block, but the Wiesco's are a nice piston for the money

What kind of compression are you guys getting with your set up? With my block milled 20 and thinking of TA heads over the eddy heads now. I see a BIG variation in price for these. The 40 over piston kits tend to be in the $650 range, but see them on eBay for $450. I'm a little hesitant getting $450 wiseco pistons when most sell for 200 more.

wiseco has made the valve reliefs part of the forging process so they don't have to machine the reliefs in now and they can cut the cost slightly. that's what I was told by the guy I deal with that works there. if anyones interested I can get good pricing on these pistons or any pistons, shoot me a pm.

Are the Wiseco Pro Tru pistons compatible with the Molnar rods without any mods?

Yes as I and alot of others have ran Wiescos on stock rods, and the Molnars are plug and play rods

O'K, that sounds good. I was concerned about the pin sizing and clearance. Also noticed that TA claims that their rods are the only plug & play rods on the market. With the Molnar rods being just a bit more money than having stock rods prepped and the added peace of mind regarding strength - it just seems to make sense not to go that route. Would the piston need to be clearanced for the pin?

I've got the 4.35 wiseco pro forged with a set of super duty rods. I'm happy with the combo. one thing to know is this is a fairly heavy set up, a good balance job will require heavy metal in the crank. knowing what i know now, i would have bought a set of lighter rods instead of the sd rods. the cost of the balance job would have off set it easily. but, what's done is done. I'm happy with the results

For longevity in a more street bound motor I perfere JE Pistons.
There Alloy allows them to run with less clearance so the rings last longer and there's far less noise when cold.

Does anybody here know the weight of the Molnar rods? 6.8" 1" pin Weight of stock rods?

    I found it - 769 grams -Molnar

how do the wiseco pistons size up to other 'popular' forged ones for the 455? speed pro, Ta, etc

Better than Speed Pro by a wide margin, rite under the JE's and Diamonds , very close to the Ross I guess.

Wiesco Pro Trus are very popular btw

Hey Jay, how are you figuring your compression? I think you meant 4.350 bore (.038 over).

    Piston dish, 22cc

    Combustion chamber cc?

    Head gasket thickness?

    Piston to deck?

Wiseco is a good piston. Get them at the best price you can, if that is what you want. E bay has the best prices from what I can see.

Does anybody here have any feedback regarding the JE rings that are supplied with the Wiseco Pistons that are sold as a set? Are there better rings to be had for longevity and good seal?

    Thanks, in advance,

    Matt

You really cannot go wrong with Weisco pistons or other popular brand pistons... The key is getting the exact piston pin height so the compression and quench is optimized without excessive milling on the block surface.

Yes I meant the 4.35 bore. Being blonde doesn't help me in these situations . I read alot on the Edde heads and am going with TAs Sg1 heads for peace of mind and better flow. So the Combustion chamber is 64-66cc. The head milled 20, using factory rods. I haven't decided on gasket thickness yet (I want to dial in compression with my roller cam grind with the gasket). Sure though it will be in the 10.4-10.8 range.

just some friendly advice here, based on what i just built. we have about the same build, the only real difference being i used the super duty rods. The wisecos are heavy, and with the factory rods they will be in the hole pretty far. it is very expensive for about engine shop to put heavy metal in the crank to offset the weight of the pistons. plus you'll probably be milling the intake to fit after they deck the block. get with your builder and have him estimate these costs, then compare the cost of a je or the 470 kit. it won't be much more money if at all.

but to answer your question. I'm very happy with the wisecos. I'm not getting a lot of noise. so far so good.
