I was going to rewire my '59 with a Painless Wiring set. I donated my original ratty harness to a '59 stocker who needed it for reference. I hope to be at this stage by the end of the year...

With all the options AC especialy I just figured it would be easier to go with the factory harness. I may switch to a alternator but thats about it. As far as the rest of the car its gonna be a custom I may chop it, but I dont know yet because I'd do it so subtle is it really worth all the trouble.

I considered chopping mine, but the one quote I got was 6K plus 'as many windshields as it takes'. I wanted to do an angled chop- slightly lower in the front, but the only thing these greehouses have that favors any degree of chopping is flat side glass; the rest is a b*tch. Better to put the money underhood.

My powertrain is completely changed over & I have no A/C :( and I am also planning a few lighting differences (no: not ground effects neon!), so I will go aftermarket.

Got any pics available of your car, 55spl?

BTW- like your avatar? You're welcome! ;)

As far as choping it I'd do it my self I got a friend that is a old school custom guru to help me if I get stuck. Theres not a whole lot of cars he has not chopped. Also get a hold of a March 2001 Rod & Custom and they have an article on how to chop a bubble top. I d do it an even maybe two inches and sink the front glass and use the rear as is. the side glass woyuld need no mods except the vent windows which is the only thing I'm concerned about.

Nice- always like to see '59s 'in the wild' like your red one.

Here's what mine looked like back in '99. I may have bitten off more than I can chew:
