....wouldja trust it? Lemme explain. I'm wiring up my disaster Wildcat. I wanted to use the harness from the non-A/C body or the LeSabre four door, but there are too many differences. The only harness I have that matches the body with A/C and convertible top, sat in a car with no windshield or top. Its all cruddy, but I don't see no rust or corrosion. I know its been rained on. Seems the wire plug thingys are copper. Are the wires copper also? So whataya think......no corrosion, no damage?

  2. Do you have a picture of the cruddy harness?

Wires are insulated to keep crud and corrosion off the conductors, so as long as the wires are not damaged or brittle, it should be fine to wipe them off. Most automotive wire is copper. Dirty wire can get hotter than clean wire when current is pulled through it, so you should wipe it off. But, if it just has crud on the insulation and no specific corrosion, you are good to go.

I gotta cheapie digital camera, so I can't take a good enough picture that would show up well. I'm really leaning toward it being OK. Of course half that decision is outta necesity. I studied it some more. Only one plug looks poor, and I'll just change it with the Non A/C harness. The car is a 1969 Wildcat conv. Its kind of a disaster. I tried to sell it cause I had no time to work on it. But I took a few days off work to dig it out and restart work, so I'm trying to make it a running car again.

Bad news....then real good news! I was cleaning the cruddy harness and it was looking good...till I pulled the fusebox apart. Pure Rust! Soooooo, I got brave and striped the electrical wrap from it, and the non-A/C harness that I really really wanted to use. I traced the wires and was able to make the good non A/C harness into an A/C one. :) I only had to splice three wires! The rest was adding to the plugs. So now I'm a happy boy! :TU:
