    r72gs Another project........

Car is almost finished, I have had an ongoing problem with mice and chipmunks thru the years.

Whats the best way to keep them out of the car (and my new interior)?

Related: whats everyone using for theft deterents? Alarm, fuel shut off?

Well mice like to climb so you can get some light steel cut into lengths about 6-12" tall with a bendback on each short edge, wrap them around the wheels and clip together to form a circle. This will keep most critters out, and one further thing you can do is to put a stick inside each enclosure so it sits on the ground with one end and goes up and out the enclosure...any mice that get in will climb the stick and then find themselves outside the metal circle.

They also drop from ceilings so get up there and get some poison where its needed.

For security on the garage I have motion sensor lights high up outside, and the place has an alarm as well..keys are in the house (hidden), battery is disconnected, kill switch is on, and the wheels are off the car. Automatic garage door switch is off, lock on the track, deadbolts on the main door and bars on the windows...no paranoa here!!LOL

Hey its only paranoa if they're not really after you....LOL

The first thing I do is just pull the battery......not too many theives will think of lugging a battery with them. Then if they do, good luck trying to get it started at below 40*. They better have brought something with some amps!

Try to find a copy of the latest issue of HiPo Pontiac magazine. There's a pretty good article on winter storage. Summary is below. One thing they don't mention is rodents. I've been told that mothballs around and under the car will keep them away. And charcoal brikets on a pan inside to keep the interior fresh.

    Change oil and filter
    Lube front end.
Fill radiator as full as possible
Fill fuel tank and add STA-BIL. I bottle (8oz) for 20 gallons.
    Wash/wax.
    Clean and vacuum
Use rubber treatment on weather strip to prevent sticking.
Remove Ram Air seals to prevent distortion.
Use car jacket AND car cover.
Remove battery and put it on a 'Battery Tender" ($20) to cycle the battery. Do not place battery on concrete, put a block of wood under it.

If storing 6 months or more:

Pour about 6oz. tranny fluid down carb while running engine. This will shut down the engine and lube all internals.
Don't set emergency brake if very cold climate.
Place car on jack stands.. under rear axle and front A-arms at bottom of shock mount. Remove wheels. DO NOT put jack stands on the frame.
