So I decided to slap a stock windage tray into the car. I have the oil pad dropped, but I don't see where the stock windage tray bolts up.

Any guidance would be appreciated. It's tight working with my hands without being able to see.

Does it bolt up using the oil pan bolts?

The one I picked up looks like this.

Is this even the correct tray?

That is the correct tray. If I recall it bolts up to the main caps. 1/4-20 bolts

Don't forget the Loctite....or they WILL come loose. I also like to use a flat washer to spread out the contact a bit as the trays tend to break from harmonics by the bolts....

I recently took the oil pan off a 455 I have sitting on the garage floor to find the windage tray held on by one last mount.
All bolts were in place, but the tray had fatigued I guess, and tore away from all but one mount. Didnt have any damage that the crank had hit it.

:gp: Just took my pan off to replace the seals and had the tray laying in the pan. All 3 tabs were cracked off. Used a washer as well when I re-installed.

After joe replied, I slapped that puppy up in there.
Thanks guys for the guidance and quick replies. I can always count on this group to steer me in the right direction.

Unfortunately, I installed the tray before thinking about the loctite, but I torqued the bejesus out of the flange bolts that I used on it.
I'll leave the loctite and washers for a day when I am feeling froggy again. If I didn't have to lift the engine to do it, I would get out there tomorrow and do it. FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

It rather sounds like these trays fail often enough to be an issue. Boooooo.

I wonder if anyone here has seen a significant amount of damage from one of the things breaking loose. It certainly seems like it's in a good position to ruin a good day.

I bought a 455 cheap once. Guy said it had a "rod knock"....allit turned out to be was the windage tay flapping around hitting the crank.:Brow:

Add me to that club. Pulled the engine for loud knocking to find that tray hanging by one bolt.
