The 8.2 Pontiac ring gear on the posi carrier is L of '69 dated, ie, the ring gear is for '70-72 8.2 Pontiac style gear. Unless one has a matched set of stock low ratio '70-72 8.2 Pontiac gears which take the larger diam lh thread ring gear bolts, one will have to make 10 thin wall bushings to fit in the ring gear holes. This will allow use of the smaller diam "early" ring gear bolts, & either $250+ Richmond 8.2 BOP gears, or "early" style GM 8.2 BOP gears.

Considering, all the hassle & expense, & the carrier will prob need to be sent out & rebuilt, not really a good deal for someone needing an early 8.2 BOP carrier.

Roger Maybe you can answer a question about the ring gears from a 67 GS400 car. I have a rear end with a posi 2.93 and an open 3.36. I am going to put the 3.36 gear on the posi carrier with a spacer but the size of the bolts are different. The 3.36 gear has smaller bolts than the 2.93. I am going to make the spacers to fill the void but is this normal? Bolt sets of bolts are RH threads.

Harvey sorry to ask this on your thread but I seems like its the same thing.

    Thanks

    Ed,
Am not sure what mid ratio posi carrier you have. Do you know what it came out of?
The '70-72 Pontiac 8.2 gears used LH thread bolts & matching Safe-T-Track carriers had larger holes to accomodate the larger diam bolt. These '70-72 Pontiac 8.2 posis are what I've had experience with fitting with the brass bushings.

Both rearends were out of 67 GS400's. The 2.93 was the auto rear and the 3.36 came out of a 4 speed GS400. I checked the housing stampings to confirm this also. The letters stamped match what is listed in the Chassis Manual. I thought is was strange that the 3.36 gear had the smaller Diameter bolts than the 2.93 gear set.
    Thanks
