I am looking at a clutch fan on Ebay Item #4534707039. The fan has a diameter of 19". I measured my fan shroud and it measures 19 3/4". Would like some feedback from you guys as to whether this would be a proper fan to install on my 70 GS 455. Thanks..............Pops
I wouldn't. the stock 70 455 fan shroud is about 20" in diameter. The correct fan is 18" in diameter. That gives 1" top and bottom. The E-bay fan will only give you 3/8", top and bottom. If the motor torques over a small amount(and you know it will, right :Brow:  ), the fan will hit the shroud. Don't know if you have an original shroud or not, but I wouldn't take the chance.
I don;t know, but that seems awful close, if the engine rocked over, it'd hit the shroud. How hard to find is a 7-blade fan? I'd be cautious about a used fan clutch...I'd get a new HD one for a later-model truck, search the board for the p/n.
Thanks Larry you always come through. I was of the same opinion that the clearance was awful tight at just 3/8 ". But to tell you the truth I never thought about the engine torqueing over into it. Again my man you have helped me dodge another bullet. Thanks again............Pops
