I've got a buddy who has a 1990 SS454 pickup that after spending $5K on an engine rebuild kicked a rod we think. The oil pan is dented. Anyhow he is stuck in 2 house payment HELL and needs to sell the truck bad. He would either like to sell it as is and it is a BEAUTIFUL TRUCK, AWSOME PAINT JOB ect. or if any of you guys have a big block Chevy short block or complete engine in running condition let me know. It need no be anything Hi-po. Just something to get it going so he can sell it as soon as possible.
I know we're a gajillion miles apart, but one of my buddys has a Gen 5 long block that he had finished for an aborted street rod project...nothing fancy, just got machined & a set of pistons...it is still disassembled, though. Would probably be on par with what that truck originally came with. Let me know if you get in a pinch & I'll rattle his cage...
Not exactly sure, but it's been in his basement for like 5 years, so it may be a steal...I was never really interested cause it was Gen 5, but I'll holler at him. He won't come out of the log woods until later this weekend, though, unless it rains...
Mike - check this thread out and its creator - not sure if he ever got rid of the BBC or not....worth a PM http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=35673&highlight=decision+bbc
Hey.. my first post is gone now. Right before I posted a pic of the car... I posted an update about my BBC. o No: Anyways.... I still have it, but as Mark said, I bought the Monza to put it in. I built a "break in stand" to fire the engine up on and break it in. It runs great, and I fire it up about once a month just to clean out the pipes and buzz my brain with CAM2 fumes. :Brow: The car should be ready this summer. All I have left to do is cut up the front cage and engine bay to make room for the big block. :3gears:
You're right Dave, These little H-bodies make great race cars. I had 2 other Monza's during my "Chevy phase" and loved them both. The first one was a Monza "Mirage". I'm still kicking myself for selling that one. ou: :ball: My next serious racecar project will definately be a BBB Skyhawk! :Brow:
I don't subscribe to it. Was it good or bad? I didn't even want to, or try to, sell my Mirage. It was my daily driver, and weekend racer. Ran 14.0x @ 99.xx mph all day long and got great gas mileage. (never could get a 13.99 or 100 mph out of it, but it was deadly consistant) I was filling it up one day, and a guy in a beautiful red 63 Impala was filling up beside me. He asked if I wanted to trade titles.... It all happened so fast, and by the end of the day, we had traded cars. Even up. No cash involved. To this day, I've never done anything as weird as that felt. But all and all I was very happy with the trade. :Brow: In retrospect though... I wish I had the Mirage AND the 63 Impala back. ou:
Well, that depends if JW and I yank the BBS out of the 89 Suburban and put a 455 Buick in it. Here's what it is: 454 BBS Edlbrock Fuel Injection (TBI Replacement) Forged Pistons Big Merlin Heads Roller Tip Rockers 3/8 Puchrods DBL Roller Timing Chain Lanatti Cam Deep Oil Pan w/Remote Cooler Chev Replacement Alum Valve Covers About 30,000 miles on it. Runs and pulls the big trailer great, but will never pull like a good old Buick 455!!! :TU: PM me if your interested.
RicknMel: I've done that a few times. First one was my mint 61 Catalina Conv (loaded with 3 spd stick) for an unfinished B/MP 61 Valiant, then later my 85 Tbird Turbo Coupe for a mint 455 72 Cutlass Supreme, and finally my 84 Hurst for my 66 442. In retrospect, I came out on the best side on the last two, but wish I'd never let that Pontiac go. Ended up "trading" the Valiant for an engagement ring. That was a very good trade. Kept me out of jail. :TU:
Mike: my buddy said $2500 would get the long block...only problem is that it's disassembled, and he traded the low compression pistons for some big dome 13.5:1 slugs...
Look in the local papers for mid 70's to mid 80's 3/4 ton Suburbans I've bought a few rusted out junkers that ran good for less than $600.00. There're getting alot harder to find but there out there if you look...
I've got a used '94 350 that came out of my current *Wayward Truck Abarition*. You can HAVE it if you come and get it. It has a hurt crank, but it should be CHEAP as Hell to rebuild if you want. Heads are nice. It isn't all sludged up. I got the "new" uzzled: motor in it now, and I am going on the cheap for the 4L80 so that we have a haywagon for the Shin-Dig ...... :beer I'm gonna push it (old motor) out in the ditch REAL SOON !!! :eek2: It'll make some nice fill for the varmits that live in them-thar-ditches .....
Mikey: a buddy from up in Illinois just saw this in his local paper: 454 CHEVY ENGINE Runs good, $450 815-938-2828 , Freeport Ill
Thanks Rob, I've also been checking the local paper for old Impala Estate Wagons, and 4 door's...Never know where you'll find a 454(or a ZL-1 :Brow: )
