Ok I will go first, Compression ratio 10.25:1 13.13 @ 106.05.. Not sure thats considered low compression ..
there is no telling for sure, but Larry Weymouth's 71 LS6 11.94 with 9.0:1 advertized compression......... Dan Jenson went 12.55 and Pete Germani went 12.59 with a 71 Pontiac 455 rated at 9.5:1 John Glasco has gone 12.61 and Charlie Lombardi has gone 12.73 with a 73 Pontiac 455 rated at 8.98:1 Tom Miller is tops in the smogger Oldsmobile with a 12.91 in a 72 455 with 9.16:1 Matt Hammond has the fastest AMC at 13.87 in a 73 401 with 8.83:1 Mike McPhillips went 14.23 in the fastest Fors in a 72 351 with 9.4:1 James Jacob had the fastest smog Plymouth at 14.42 in a 74 360 at 9.02:1 Buicks stayed at 10.5:1 through 1974
I went 12.95 @ 110mph with my 71ls6, I hope it does better this year with the new MR 6 PACK GM CAM and NHRA blue printed motor. If larrys car is any indication, I should be able to close the gap a little, as he is 1 second faster
I took the numbers off the NHRA blueprint specs......... they seemed odd at the time. if that is the case then Greg Gessler would be the man with a 12.42 in a '72 455 rated at 8.5:1
Buick dropped to 8.5to1 in 1971. Donny, stay on topic, this is a Pure Stock thread:Smarty: I think even Greg will tell you that the car was SA at that time, then again, maybe it wasn't?? I know he made the move to F.A.S.T. shortly after, although going much quicker.
I was wrong anyways, Chris Robertson in his '70 Buick went 12.31 ........... unless Tom is right, then Joe Sheppard went 12.91 in his 72 455
My 72 skylark has 8.5:1 runs 87 octane it runs 12.81 at 107 mph. Small valve iron head(gasket matched), B4B intake, 26" tire, 3.55 gear, 2500 stall, 1 7/8 headers, 3800 lbs with driver.
So is this thread discussing: -- Factory rated compression -- NHRA (and PSMCDR) allowable compression -- Actual, measured compression o No: Big difference in many cases.
