There are a few choices out there, its just a driver. So can shocks make a real difference in ride and drive quality? Some are pricey, like Edelbrock, are the pricey ones worth the extra money? Thanks, Mike
I installed KYB's on my 71 GS all the way around. Gas shocks, a little firm but in my opinion a good ride. Mike NJ
back in 2001, i installed a set of monroe gas shocks on my 72 gs, but i painted them gray like the originals. it was the old buy three, get one free.
Mike, search the 66-67 GTO forums at www.performanceyears.com Their top choice is the Edelbrocks. KYB gas-adjust is reported to be a bit on the harsh side, compared to the Edel's. The shock hole in the '66 lower control arm is on the small side. Late-model shocks will require the hole be made larger. KYB 4515 will fit without mods. Not sure about the Edel's....
From direct use experience: Budget - Monroe Gas Matic Mid Range - Edelbrock, Bilstein Cost No Object - Koni I am running 4 of the Eddys on my 70. I really like them.
Thanks Men. I am beginning to think of the old adage "You get what you pay for". And I don't mind at all paying for what I get. But I like to think if I buy a high end product, of any line, it will out perform the less price model. The general drift here seems to say "Yes, spend the money", so I guess I will. I really appreciate the input, and all the patrons on this board. V8Buick is great, and that's because it has great people. Mike
If anyone want the budget shocks, Sears has the Monroe Gas-matics for 50% off thru Saturday. Figure $10-16 each. KYB Gas-a-just's are around $37 each. And I believe the Edelbrocks are near $80 each. Mike, you'll give us a full ride report when you get your new shocks installed, right?:Brow:
Good info.... I'm needing to order shocks for the '66 Special project and was searching forums for info. I have KYB's on the GS & I like them.... Steve
